Arguably the most anticipated game in the history of the medium "Grand Theft Auto VI", finally has a confirmed release date for it's first trailer.

I have never understood the appeal of these games for whatever reason.

My father used to play one of them (and probably still does), and I used to watch him play on occasion and I never saw anything that looked particularly intriguing. In high school one of my friends said something interesting: "GTA is good, but most people that play it are playing it for the wrong reasons", although I never inquired as to what any of those reasons, right or wrong, were.

I've been playing GTA games since the beginning, the original top down game on the original Playstation. I like them, but I must confess they're losing their appeal for me. I mainly play GTA online these days, in invite only sessions so I don't have to put up with other people, and my main reason to play is to make money in the game so I can buy and customize cars. In retrospect, I should probably just play the Forza Horizon games, since I can do that with actually licensed and accurate cars and without having to have a bunch of illicit businesses to support my car fetish. 😂

I'd imagine the "wrong" reasons are the fact that you can kill a lot of "innocent" people. Though, to be fair, there are a lot of games where people can kill non enemy NPCs. Many of them even have a penalty for doing it, but people do it anyway.

Played all the entries but noticed that after spending some time with GTA 5 that the world outside of the missions was really boring.. just minigames to get from A to Z with multiple vehicles, a shooting range, searching for some locations but that's about it.

Was playing Saints Row 3 around the same time co-op with my brother, I think I haven't had that much fun playing online in ages. Everything in that game is over the top. Those drug dealing missions were extremely chaotic with ongoing gang wars, made GTA 5 feel stale in comparison. Pity how Saints Row lost its edge. Edit: just realized I the reboot as part of the PS Plus deal, might need to boot it up now :D

Having played all the GTAs except 4 (Although I hear it’s not good), I am sure GTA6 will be good, but I am with @scifidude79 here. The games are losing their appeal. At least Red Dead is a change of scenery.

San Andreas was probably the best.

Vice City had the best Music / Setting

Five was a huge graphical overhaul.

1 & 2 were a quick diversion with a nice zoom feature.

I am guessing that GTA 6 is going to cost $100 when it comes out.

I've gone from being really harshly critical of this series to enjoying it more over the years. The earliest 3D entries were really ropey and rather half-assed in some ways. But through the years they've invested in some nice tech and they've improved dramatically. GTA Online had some fun aspects when playing with friends in private lobbies, but its interface for gathering and moving from event to event was a bit clunky. There also was just a distinct feeling of separateness to all of the missions, rather than a feeling of continuity and progression like in the better iterations of Ghost Recon Wildlands. But I'll give this a try, sure. 2025 feels like a long ways off, though. One thing that I heard is that this one is designed so they can periodically expand the map, so maybe eventually it'll contain new versions of Liberty City and San Andreas that you can travel to.

If I had to pick a favorite, it's probably between Vice City and San Andreas. I like the story better in San Andreas, it has more of a family aspect to it than the other ones in that series. But, I don't like some of the stuff they make you do just to progress, like having to go on dates, dance and whatnot. There's none of that in Vice City, but I don't think the story is as good. I like it, I just like San Andreas's story better.

GTA4 wasn't bad play wise, but the story and characters are on the boring side. Plus, the main character's cousin constantly calls and annoys you wanting to go do things together, and saying "no" or not taking his call affects how much he likes you. 🙄 Though, I like it better than GTA5. With 5, I didn't mind the main characters, though I never played long enough to get Trevor. It was a lot of the NPCs you have to interact with that I didn't like. Also, I found the missions repetitive and boring. If it wasn't for GTA Online, I would have given up on that game entirely years ago.

I just went looking for the trailer, before seeing it embedded above, but since youtube bumps "trusted news sources," all I can find on the 'tube are local news stories about there being trailer and how culturally important it is. I've scrolled a while, real trailer doesn't come up in search.

Am I in bizarro world? Or an AI matrixed version of Candid Camera? Was there a point where grand theft auto became a family dinner table topic, and not just the realm of middle-school edgelords? 🤣

Yeah, when searching for "GTA 6 trailer" I see the official trailer from Rockstar after several news reports about it. It's easier to find if you just search "Rockstar Games."

So am I the edgelord, then?

I've been thinking about this since my last post.

At first the thread title drew me in by being so impossible to be remotely true, it has to be trolling.

In my world, humanity doesn't even 'respect' GTA as a game series(?).

However, it is confirmed, by even the normie news, that GTA 6 is the video gaming pinnacle of our modern cultural zeitgeist,

Which makes mine the trolly edgelord opinion, then.

When did this happen, GTA5 era? It's got to be recent right, the psp ones sure didn't get much respect, and there's only been two(?) since.

It's not for everyone. I play it like I play pac-man, move around gobbling dots while I avoid ghosts. Now I drive around collecting things while avoiding the cops... It's just a fun sandbox to play in.

I'm guessing several different editions will hit the stores. And I'll wager a $100 price tag will hit one of them. I'm good with that. I'll probably drop a couple hundred hours into it. Just like it did with Red Dead 2.

Yes, and I'd say probably with GTA IV. They went for a more serious/dramatic storyline in that one, although it was completely undermined by the player's killing sprees in between all the cinematics.

If the mainstream news is saying that now, then surely it's past its prime and no longer the cool thing :)

yeah, that does mean the hipsters have already moved on to the next big thing, and your embarrassing dad has started talking about it to sound 'hip to the jive.' (which honestly doesn't sound too far from my personality)

TBH I haven't played a GTA since two solid attempts to play GTA 4, --BUT-- I notice steam has a sale for GTA V 'premium edition' for $9.25. Honestly that sounds fair, and I did enjoy Lemmings, so I'll buy their new game too. 🤣

I'm not doing the one with horses, though.  that looks really lame, and I am not going to enjoy the theming.

I don't feel that excited about GTA 6 because I've been playing 3D GTA games since 2001, so I feel like I've been there and worn the T-shirt. Plus from the trailer GTA 6 just looks like it's basically GTA 5.5.

Gta III I love, there's just something very special about it. I quite like Vice City and San Andreas, and I really like Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories. GTA IV gives me a weird depressing feeling that I don't really like, but I love the vehicle physics. GTA 5 I find has a sterile look and feel to it, it doesn't really seem to have an atmosphere, it kind of has an empty feeling and I get bored easily, I'm not sure why because it's such a big map with so much to do.

I see dads now taking their family to Metallica concerts and I'm like "When did they stop being the underground metal band the edgy kids listened to in High School?"

That's a great price! I'd say grab it!

That's too bad. RDR2 is such a great world to explore. But if the old west isn't your thing then I get it.
