Falter Posted December 31, 2023 Share Posted December 31, 2023 My wife gave me this unit as an Xmas present. I powered it on but saw no picture onscreen. I then noticed a noticeable plastic smell coming from inside. I opened it up and removed the RF shield and plugged into start checking voltages, and as I was doing that, the 12V regulator (LM342P-12) started smoking. I replaced it with another, but same thing. I've been checking the diodes CR1-CR8, not seeing any shorts, etc. Not seeing any damage to other VRs. Just wondering if any of you have run into this. Many thanks! I can't remember reading about this specific problem, but there are at least a few hardware gurus on the Astrocade group on groups.io.
