+wongojack
NES Mike Tyson's Punch Out 114 Tecmo Bowl 2 PC Half Life Alyx 225 Xbox Series S/X Broforce 90 CATAN: Console Edition 77 Lara Croft Temple Osiris 120 Pinball FX3 86 Plate Up 373 A big week full of co-op gaming. Actually, most of the co-op is from the holiday last Monday when my niece and nephew were staying with us. They are getting older, but they still like to come over and play games. I'm making progress in Half Life: Alyx, but I'm playing with an Oculus 2 wired up to my PC. Playing the game this way makes you constantly aware that the game was intended to be played on a different device. The configuration alone is fairly complicated with a specialized cable that I had to purchase and at least 3 different apps that have to be running on the PC to make everything work. I also think that yesterday something was not quite right with one of the USB ports on my Laptop, as I was getting some extra disconnections. Then after I resumed play after a break - the sound didn't work. Took multiple restarts and reconnections - using a different USB port . . . On top of that, the game will just crash sometimes when loading a new level (or when it feels like it). It certainly feels more like an experiment than a tested user experience. I'm glad I bought the game on sale (although I did have to buy a specific cable) and am only borrowing the Oculus. I think if I owned it, I'd stick to the native Meta games vs trying to force it to play on Steam. Although, there is apparently another option to use Steam Link and stream to the headset. Maybe I'll try that if this thing kills all my USB ports.

+jgkspsx
A smörgåsbord. Arcade: Gaplus - 20 min Minky Monkey - 15 min Mysterious Stones - 195 min I learned a ton about the game even though I thought I knew it all! For instance, how to choose which treasure to pick if you don't know. Truxton - 108 min Atari Lynx: Blue Lightning - 65 min Blaze Evercade: Bubble Seahorse Adventures - 10 min Donut Dodo - 10 min Sadly the controls are messed up on the Super Pocket so until they patch it my dream is deferred. Browser: Paku Paku - 69 min Go ahead and try to beat THAT score. Suika Game - 7 min Nintendo 3DS: The Alliance Alive - 25 min Flying is fun but I forgot what I was supposed to do. Nintendo 64: Blast Corps - 25 min Great game on Nintendo Switch Online. Nintendo Entertainment System: Donkey Kong Jr - 12 min Mr. Gimmick - 25 min Skate Cat - 14 min Nintendo Game Boy: Blaster Master Boy - 31 min Nintendo Switch: Picross S - 35 min Love the features but nonograms without a theme just don't make me stick around. Snakebird Complete - 90 min Finished the prologue. Tetris 99 - 30 min Zanac - 50 min I bet you say that to all the gals. Sony PlayStation: DarkStone - 75 min Finding out that there was an in-game appearance by a real life French recording artist with a pretty catchy song was a very pleasant surprise. I left out the time I just sat there with the song playing. Sheep - 45 min Fun game, but the disk is screwed up. I did figure out how to get a perfect on the first training level, something the Internet didn't seem to know. Sorcerer's Maze - 150 min Back when shovelware could be a pleasant surprise. A really great Arkanoid homage. Highly recommended! Sony PlayStation 3: Afrika - 141 min iNaturalist: The Videogame. I am peeved I can't send in photos of bugs or plants.
TheGameCollector
This week I played: Zelda Randomizer for NES - 1,464 minutes A randomizer for The Legend of Zelda. Not to be confused with Zelda Reloaded Randomizer which came later, this version that began in 2015 and was last updated in 2019 is the version I used to make all the roms in these first four sets. Progress: First I completed all 6 games in Set 1 which were just item locations being randomized. It was still very interesting because I never knew where to expect to find what I needed so it had me exiting levels, entering others and going back to earlier levels. Sometimes I even had to skip levels and do them later because an item needed to access the level was not available yet, such as the raft, either candle or the recorder. It took quite a bit of strategy and remembering what was left unfinished. I tried the second quest of the first game and found out that it is unbeatable because some of the levels are inaccessible due to some key items not being in stores where they need to be. It seemed with these 6 games' store item selections, none of the second quests would have been beatable so I didn't bother to try any others. The one second quest did give me a bunch of random glitched sword pickups and kept cycling through the sword designs. Set 2 is more random with a higher difficulty. Even the level locations, enemy locations, item locations and shapes of rooms inside dungeons are different. Sometimes even the playable character is random. In game 1 I controlled Link with different colors than usual, in the 2nd game I controlled a green Ghini and saved Ganon from the final boss, Zelda and fought Link in place of every Ghini. In the 3rd game I played as a red Gibdo and as before, Link took the place of all enemy Gibdos. In this second set I completed games 1 and 2, but got stuck in game 3. I could not find the recorder within any levels. If level 8 is in the pond/lake I can't use the recorder on, then I could be stuck. I am saving my file for later just in case I want to look harder. These games actually don't even have second quests upon completion.

Gotcha - I do pick up stuff here and there as well - VideoGameSage attracts some of that. I've always thought it was funny how AtariAge tends to gather homebrewers for many classic systems in a nice tight little community, and yet, for other systems that community is a bit harder to find. It would be awesome to browse 20+ years of NES homebrew notes and revisions in one place, but even Nintendo Age didn't really do that when it was running.

DarthDuke
I have picked up a few new-to-me games this past week. I got Strategy X, XONOX double ended Spikes Peak with Ghost Manor, and Midnight Magic for the Atari 2600. Also found Claymates for the SNES. I had never heard of Konami making Atari 2600 games, so that was a fun surprise. Amazes me that I keep coming across new-to-me Atari games after playing the console for decades. It's a kinda tough blend of River Raid and Combat. The XONOX cartridges are funky looking things but kind of a neat idea. Both games on it are rather confusing so I had to look up the manuals to figure them out. Impressive graphics on Spikes Peak there, especially the mountain. Kinda weird that you have to play 'tag' with the ghost or skeleton and intentionally tap him rather than the usual case of needing to avoid or shoot other characters on screen. I kept trying to avoid those monsters on the first screen until I read in the manual about this twist. Midnight Magic is pretty awesome! A very good pinball simulator for the 2600. Only thing I wish was different was that the main color on the screen was a bit brighter. I sometimes had trouble keeping track of the 'ball' as it's a rather dark red against the black background. TampaBay
I made it down to the arcade yesterday, February 29, for a little time with the cabinets. (This is Replay arcade in Tarpon Springs, FL, and is mostly 80s arcade cabinets). I didn't track exactly how long I played each game, but please put 20 mins for each. All games are on free-play so you can play as much as you want. * Asteroids Deluxe * Out Run * Robotron:2084 * Star Wars Arcade (1983) * Tempest * TRON I played a few other games, but not enough time to warrant adding to the tracker. This place is a ton of fun. I've seen freeplay cabinets in hobby stores where I live, but not this many. Does this place charge any kind of admission or at the door fee? There used to be a high-end bar/restaurant here where you could have somewhat expensive, but quite good, drinks and gourmet level bar food (excellent bison burgers for example). But the upside was that they had a lot of freeplay arcade cabinets, pool tables, darts, etc. Not nearly this many though. I think the arcade side of the place was maybe a fourth the size of this one, but it was still a great place to hang out and to have parties. Covid killed it off unfortunately. It never came back. 4
