Hi Everyone.

I've been getting back into the Atari 7800 lately and have been on the fence about whether I should get the Atari 2600+ or the GameDrive 7800 and hook up my original 7800. I'd like to ask a few questions on the 2600+ to see if there are answers. If the 2600+ can cover most of these either currently, or in the future, I may  go with the 2600+ instead of the GameDrive 7800 mostly because I'm afraid of just how much longer my 7800 system will work for before it dies from old age. Anyhow...

BTW, I did sift through many of the 2600+ threads and didn't find direct answers to these question. That or I simply missed them.

1. Can the 2600+ Save High Scores on 7800 carts that had high score saving features?

1b. Not as important, but same question for Atari 2600 games which for the most part are more recent homebrews.

2. Does anyone think any of the old multicarts such as the 2600 Harmony cart will work on the 2600+? While I don't mind swapping carts, if I can have just one cart with my roms on it that works in the 2600+ it would be great and save me from having to find space to store all my 2600/7800 original carts in my small game room. :)

2b. If the multicarts most likely won't be possible, I wanted to ask about this alternate idea. If the 2600+ simply makes a temporary dump of an inserted cartridge, might it be possible via a future firmware update to have the dumped image saved to memory in the system so that it may be possible to boot the system with no cartridge inserted and the system would then jump to a built in menu system showing all the previously dumped roms allowing you to scroll through and select the specific rom you wish to play? I don't believe that isn't something currently supported, but I'm curious if it may be possible in the future?

3. I read in one post that the Atari 7800 at least, not sure about the 2600 emulation on the 2600+ uses RetroArch. If that is so, is there a way to implement overlays for the emulators? Typically if RetroArch has a working emulator, you can include screen overlays. The one thing that disappoints me with emulators on most systems is the large blank, empty areas on large HD (aka 16:9) TVs of today. RetroArch is great in that it allows you to use an overlay that covers the empty space with some form of artwork. Most are old school looking TV bezels with the play area blank so the actual games show fine. It just gives a more immersive experience when playing rather than having all that blank space on the TV screen.

4. As most of us know the Retron77 had that great community update with a newer version of Stella for better compatibility. Will something like this (a community update)  be possible down the road with the 2600+?

Well, that is all for now. I did put pre-orders in for all the NEW Atari stuff released such as the 3 new 7800 releases of the old originals from Atari, the new paddles and extension cables, plus the gamepads although I'm not sure if I'll use them. I guess I'm too old school and always preferred a joystick over a NES-type gamepad. I'll even get the new CX-40 controllers. They seem to be sold out on Amazon currently.

Well, thats all I guess. Any info is appreciated.

Thanks,

John
