VCS in 2024

I'm interested in people's thoughts and ideas about what Atari will do with the VCS in 2024?

What the future is for the VCS and/or the AtariOS?
Will Atari support it through the year, will AtariOS support come to an end?
Given that Atari took a hit on directly manufactured hardware, could there be a VCS 2?

Or maybe you have your own questions?

I think the Atari VCS 800 will largely continue in the same way it did through out 2023 but doing much better without the zip code issue. I think we will see more indie devs getting behind the platform, and more games all round and of higher quality. There is actually quite a few games hitting the Atari VCS 800 this year that I'm interested in but the main one so far being Spirit of the Samurai. I would also like to see the cart reader add-on releasing for the Atari VCS 800 this year adding more value to the device for physical collectors of 2600/7800 games. I think the VCS 800 will continue on for a long time, one of Atari's plans is to continue to build and support the Atari OS so i think there's a high chance of an Atari VCS pro being released and one that can overcome the so called hurdles of the current one that prevent it being sold outside the US. I could see the Atari VCS 800 doing fairly well if it was available in other countries.

…and this!

Also looking forward to more homebrews being added to the store. They recently added Frenzy by@PacManPlus and we have others by @Dionoid, @Muddyfunster and @Revontuli. This is brilliant and something that many of us had been hoping for. 🙂

Spirit of the Samurai has been high on my "must play" list for the VCS since I first saw the trailer. It seems like a very beautiful, creepy, and all round atmospheric game.

I also agree with @Atari_JaguarVCS that the VCS should continue being supported for a while. The VCS has grown into a great platform for smaller indie and Atari homebrew developers to release their games in an accessible (and officially Atari sanctioned) format where they can still get noticed. Every week it seems like more small developers are jumping on board and releasing new titles. So long as the VCS is still a developer friendly platform, I think Atari will keep it chugging along. As a fan of the system, that works great for me.

Your welcome! The games speak for themselves. My thanks to all of the talented developers that have helped keep our hobby going for all of these years. It’s nice to see your work made available on multiple platforms. And what better than the current Atari.

I am looking forward to offering a 7800 version of Blockem Sockem on the VCS.   I do not have a timeline, but am working with @Albert as well as @darryl1970 and @davpa to offer this game this year.   I would love to see the continued support of indie games as well as the inclusion of more homebrews.   A cart reader would be amazing.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what comes from Atari's investment in Playmaji / Polymega. In addition to the app on the VCS, I'm really curious to see what kind of Modules they release for the Polymega. Two years ago a 2600/7800 Module seems like it would have been the most logical first step, but that seems like direct competition to the 2600+. So fingers crossed for Jaguar or 5200 ... or better yet, all of the above. 😃

More homebrews, more games from indie devs plus whatever else Atari has up their sleeves, and maybe some of those new accessories we've seen hints at. I think it's going to be a great year for the VCS. As @Atari_JaguarVCS said, having that zip code error in the past is a great thing. I think Atari will want to have a much better year after that fiasco kind of tainted last year for the platform.
