Maybe this is a stupid question but ... I was wondering while updating my detailed list of Atari 2600 games: Is there an official name for the new Atari 2600 label variation (10in1, 4in1, Mr Run and Jump, Berzerk Enhanced Edition)?

I don’t know if it’s officially named anything, but I sorted my current releases with my red label 2600 games since the labels are similar in font and style.

I suppose you could just call them modern.

No stupid questions from you bro, What do you mean label variation?

I meant this :

https://atariage.com/system_labels.php?SystemID=2600

Label variations make the Atari 2600 game collecting particularly interesting compared to other consoles.

The label style on the new Atari 2600/2600+ game cartridges is the 7th variation after Text#, Text, Picture, Silver, Children and Red label.

It's neither important nor urgent... but how should we officially name this new style of label? We should definitely give it a name.

I correct myself: actually, if we count the Atarisoft label styles, it even makes it the 8th label variation for Atari cartridges.

By the way, who designed the new labels? Someone at Plaion?

That would be me.

I could talk about this for days!

It was very important to me as it was Atari packaging that it had to follow the style of Klax - Ataris last official 2600 release, so the format, framing and size of the new solus game boxes and labels had to be in that style. The font for titles had to be eras demi, only major change was that by that time game logos where baked into the main artwork instead of the game title being separate and in a standardised font. But I didn't have logos for 10in1, 4in1 and so for 2600 carts I went with a standardised font for game titles.

You'll note 7800 games all have there own titles in their artwork, so there's a difference to note - any 2600 carts we release will have the title in eras demi and any 7800 carts will have their own individual logos!

Wow ! So it was you! You indeed possess many talents! You've done a remarkable, thoughtful, and respectful job of Atari's heritage.

Well. I suggest we officially call this kind of label  Ben@Plaion label :)

Quick question.

Are any of the existing names ("Text#, Text, Picture, Silver, Children and Red label") actually official?

I get that there's been a consensus within the fan community, but has Atari actually adopted these names?

Ha, I'd be happy with a continuation of 'modern'.

I just read Atari Age and try and act on the general sentiment!

I was very happy to see a continuation of the style from the red label releases. I personally find them to be the most attractive. I also like that different colors were used rather than staying with the maroon color. I like that color, but a little variation is nice as well.

As I said above, they fit perfectly alongside my late release titles and were the right choice IMHO.

Great job Ben! 👍🏼

Agreed, I love the red style but with different colors.  Why don't we call it the Atari Interactive variant?

Here are the proposed colours of the boxes my designer made...be real cool to get some games out with this pallete

02 used on Mr Run and Jump

10 used on 10in1 and 4in1 and unnannounced title

15 used on Berzerk

Out of this palette, where would the original red label carts fit? Would that be colour 04? Btw. it should be spelled "Burgundy".

Ugh my favourite, a member of the public spotting a spelling error, the shame!

In answer to your question yes it's 04, I think he chose the colours based on colours from back in the day and then a couple of new shades to fill in some gaps.

Don't forget the Atari Corp. 1986-88 Picture Labels (usually with different title fonts/colors, and often with errors) and Gray labels (cost-reduced versions of the Silver labels). 😜

And then there's weird stuff like "Picture" label Star Ship, 1986 Hangman, and Raiders of The Lost Ark with the Sears-style end label, but I think those are just filed under "Special."

BTW the "Atarisoft" carts are just Silver or Gray label cartridges with unusual alternate end labels; I wouldn't say they constitute their own variation, since IIRC there are only two of them. Similar to "Pole Positn" and "Raiders Lost Ark" 🙃

I would personally go with Atari Red or maybe pink 232 c variation for all the girl gamers. 👍
