There was a bunch of people in the 80s who had Atari home computers.  They were sold in large shops and software was available.

I started on an Atari 800XL and then got a 130XE from Germany, still have the 130XE today :)

As for software that was written here?  Not sure.  There were a couple of businesses that use ST software that was written here but I've never heard about 8bit stuff written here.

Well besides the games that I've been writing :)

Thank you!

Hi  @JAC! Just wondering if it’d be possible to release 'QUIXX' on the forum? It’d be cool to see it shared with the community.

I asked one of the programmers. They are not here on AA.

And it is a great game; based on a "hardware" dice game for up to four people.

@Yautja why are you sad?

I asked whether they want to publish it - and am very confident that they want to.

Oh, I misunderstood—I thought they didn't want to publish it! Hope it gets sorted soon. Fingers crossed!

Hi  @JAC! Just wondering if it’d be possible to release 'QUIXX' on the forum? It’d be cool to see it shared with the community.

Uncle Harry & Artax confirmed that the game is Freeware.

Here you go:

QUIXX.xex

The game requires 64 KB of RAM.

QUIXX - A virtual board game for the ATARI 8-bit

Authors: Uncle Harry & Artax, supported by JAC!

The game is for 1-4 players and requires an ATARI 8-bit and optional joysticks, Multijoy or paddles, but can also be played using only the keyboard.
A quick start guide in English and German is available in the game.

At the start of the game, a name is entered for each player. The order of play is arbitrary, as the order of play is determined randomly by the computer.

image.png.f985d824a613133bfe924acf1efab549.png
Start of the game with two players. The computer determines the order of the players.

The game is played with six dice, two white and four colored.
The two white dice or one white and one colored die are combined and their sum is used.
Each player has a playing field consisting of four colored rows that correspond to the colors of the colored dice. In two rows, ascending numbers from 2 to 12 are used from left to right. The other two rows are in descending order from 12 to 2. The values in the rows may only be used from left to right.

If the sum of the two white dice is used, the value can be placed on all color rows. When adding a white die and a colored die, only the row in the same color may be used.
The rightmost value in a row can only be used if at least five values have already been placed in the row. If this is the case, the row is completed and can no longer be used by any player.
One player rolls the dice and can then place two white dice and/or one white and one colored die. The other players can place the same white dice, but do not have to. The player rolling the dice should use one of the two options, otherwise this is considered a miss which results in five minus points. The next player then rolls the dice.

Game with three players. The green row is completed. It is player 3's turn to place a colored combination.

Aim of the game:
To place as many values as possible in the rows. Points are awarded for each value placed in a row and the player with the most points wins.

End of the game:
The game ends when a player has completed two rows or has four misses.
At the end of the game, you can choose to repeat the game with the same settings or change them.

Player ABBUC wins the game with the most points after two rows have been completed.

ATTN @JAC! & @Artax: During our playthrough we may have found a small bug, but maybe not.

If you check the video below at 2:18:25 I (ZPH) played my turn and had 1&1 on the white dice. Then it was Aerlan's turn to choose to use the 1&1 on the white dice but all the rest of the coloured dice showed back up for some reason and it also wouldn't let him select the 1&1 for his red row, it just buzzed him when he tried, even though the red two was available. Was the 1&1 not selectable for his red row because it would have ended the game for him?

Also, this game is AMAZING and definitely should be ported to FujiNet for online multiplayer, it's so much fun!!  <---- ATTN: @The Car & @tschak909

This game looked like a lot of fun on your playthrough, it would be a GREAT addition to the FujiNet Game Lobby!

@ZeroPage Homebrew Great video, thanks for going through all the games in such depth! Sorry your experience with RainboX was a bit frustrating, but just to assure you, it's possible to win against the computer, see here:

But it might take a few more rounds of training and getting used to distinguishing the colors.

Again, thanks for this and keep up the great work!

To complete a color row on the game block, there must be at least five crosses in it, with the last square on the far right being empty.

There were only four crosses.

Fun game. Thanks and congrats to the authors.

I definitely would have rated it higher than what it placed in the contest.
