You couldn't for example plug an ODE into a stereo system and playback music with it. And just to make it 100% clear I received this email from the guy who makes the ODE. But, Jag forum gonna Jag forum, so I'm sure this guy will insist a Jag CD isn't needed. Anyway, I'm done here. Quote Yes, it needs an actual JAG CD unit. I'll be doing a video on it soon. I'll also cover the repair of jag cd unit in case you're getting green or purple screens. dariusxg
Maybe its just wishful thinking because theyre so rare and expensive, and I dont want to modify my own either. But youre probably right, it will just replace the motor in the Jaguar CD. It could also make way for used parts/non working Jag CDs to have life again. edit: checks out, as above. Sorry we keep raining on your parade, but those are already trivial to fix. I've fixed about 5. The laser transports are not the rare part, as noted above. The same transport mechanism was used in a ton of other products, so generic freshly made replacements are plentiful. http://jaguar.linkovitch.me.uk.s3.mytilde.co.uk/cdrepair/ https://www.theinnocuous.com/jaguar/jagcd_suppl/ For reference, you do need to be able to solder, but just barely. Before performing these repairs, I'd soldered exactly twice before, and it was still easy. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/364753-could-there-ever-be-repro-jaguar-cd-units/page/2/#findComment-5454446 Share on other sites
Zerosquare
Not to mention the elephant in the room: the JagGD already exists, and it doesn't require owning a JagCD in the first place. Sure, it doesn't work reliably for everyone (at least, not yet), but the real JagCDs don't either. Sir, this is the Jag forum, please take your facts and rational thoughts elsewhere. 1 5 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/364753-could-there-ever-be-repro-jaguar-cd-units/page/2/#findComment-5454610 Share on other sites
