wow... so

WayForward -- we have this game made that's pretty cool.  Not sure what to do with it, though.

Atari -- can you stick Yars in the title somewhere?

WayForward -- Done!

Atari -- "We're pleased to announce a new game based on the beloved classic "Yars' Revenge"

Oh well, it's WayForward so I'm still confident it'll be a cool game.

Yeah, this is about what I thought a while back when I saw the trailer.

I'll probably give it a look because WayForward, but otherwise utterly bewildered by the complete non-sequitur of connecting it to Yars Revenge.

I guess the Yars name got me to look at the trailer.  So I suppose that worked.  But I'm not really sure who that appeals to beyond 50+ year old videogame nerds such as myself.

Yars Rising confirmed release date September 10th

I'd love to see physical release on Xbox for this game and Lunar Lander Beyond.. Bummed out, it'll never happen...

Xbox requires a much higher minimum print for physical games than Nintendo or Playstation.

Since 2020, the only Atari published games to receive a physical release on Xbox have been:

Atari 50

Days of Doom

Haunted House

Rollercoaster Tycoon Adventures Deluxe

That's an exhaustive list, it's pretty dire if you are an Xbox user for physical games, for almost any publisher.

I saw yars rising for preorder (with a end of year placeholder date) what little I've seen of it looks cool, action platformer with I assume yar boss battles. Well see when it comes in, whenever that may be.

Idk, had consoles and computers of the era been up to snuff yar may have been anime style. Look at the art, you're A dude with artificial bug wing suit fighting big robot bug badguys. That seems very anime style to me :P acactually, lots of early Atari games would be at home in anime stylings.

Asian-influenced style in a game from a company named after a move from an Asian game? 😅 Well, yeah, considering it's currently one of the most popular styles of commercial art. Much like Atari featured DC Comics and Marvel/Epic Comics artists in the early 80s when that was the most popular style. If Atari is to build any resonance with younger gamers these days, developing some story-driven and character-focused games utilizing currently popular style seems like a smart way to go about it.

For my personal tastes, I like the abstract and stylized Yars: Recharged, but with Wayforward developing this, it deserves everyone's open mind.

Thats a big bummer, I wonder what the minimum print number might be. I got a physical copy of Tunic on xbox this year! https://www.fangamer.com/products/tunic-deluxe-edition-game-xbox

Com'on Atari bring the games to Xbox players too! Who should I email a request too?

Seems like low print number stop them from release.

Anime in an Atari game? No thanks!

Here I am wondering how much pre-teen me would have loved a Battle of the Planets game for my Atari. Not the same as full Anime in a game back then.... some will get what I'm saying...

This is something that is typically wrapped up under NDAs, but it was inferred through limited print sales numbers (I can't recall where I read it... probably Twitter...) that:

For Sony and Nintendo, the numbers are likely 500-1000 minimum for printing

For Xbox, its in the multiple thousands and much larger.

A year or two ago Limited Run and Xbox had said they were possibly working out smaller runs, although I'm not sure what came of that

I could see Xbox wanting a larger print run, but those of us who want physical aren't buying digital just because no physical. Many of us have multiple consoles and will just buy physical for whatever system has them. It doesn't hurt my feelings that switch gets most the limited run stuff, it's my current goto for gaming anyways. Don't know if its up to snuff, but what about doing runs for say, evercade or something?

I got lunar lander a couple weeks back on switch and can say the "anime style" doesnt hurt it any. Granted, they could have dropped the mission briefing part of the game altogether and I don't think it would have hurt anything either. Just judging by that, I'd say anime yars will probably be fine.

I was looking and it appears many Atari switch games are lrg. Outside the 50th collection and flashback collections. Hopefully Atari will become more known and relevant to modern gamers and can break away from lrg. I've nothing against lrg myself, with the exception that most don't make appearances in bam stores.
