A hell of a good game, platformer with 2 stages and a lot of fun too. [select]=pause/resume

Play from level 1

[Select] is pause and resume

Bonus Challenges (Points for top 5 in current standings, and a point for everyone else to go for)

1. highest score on level 1 (both screens in 1 man)

2. set new HSC record - Orpheuswaking 236,130 :-o

Trbb's DD Tips:

1. lure the Baron's bombs away to the side of you.

2. Wait for him to go up before passing him on the top row.

3. On the higher levels allow your power to re-charge before tackling the Vaults

4. You can drop bags of gold mid journey so that if you are hit they are not put all the way back.

The 2nd screens heavily rely on skill the further you get - very satisfying to nail one from the bottom row. You have to be disciplined to complete the levels, the pay off for recovering energy is losing bonus and I suspect you can then be out, plus I usually get hit again anyway!

Downloads

Play the version with "English Software" on the title screen (the Creative Sparks version will not let you access all the levels!) - Desmond's Dungeon (1984)(Sparklers)(GB)[a1].XEX from atarionline.pl

McKong posted this version - not sure if it is the same as above... [it is!]

If we end up playing Desmond's Dungeon it's worth everyone using the same Xex cos there are some differences between versions.

If I remember correctly the bonus timer varies, also level 10 or 11 isn't possible to complete on some versions.

I've attached a version that works

This akosoft ATR may be ok too

Desmond's Dungeon - 2980 pts

Again I found out that the down direction no longer works on my Starplex. Maybe I don't play games often enough that require downwards movement. I will have to resolder and see if it helps. In the mean time, I dug out a random Tac-2 which let me play the game, but it is much harder for me not used to a stick joystick. Also I'm certain that Desmond is Irish, because he leaps and jumps around like an Irish dancer, think Riverdance.

'select' button for pause BTW. Careful not to press 'start' as I did earlier 😡

:thumbsup:I didn't risk finding pause but played through to Vault 11 where I met my demise. Thk my best ever is V13 so not to bad.

The music fits nicely to "We are going to beat McKong, beat McKong..." which changed to "We're not going to beat McKong" after I crashed out again on level 11 :!:

(80,110) 2,950 for first level  :music:

Ugh. It turned out to be a broken wire somewhere in the cable, so resoldering on the joystick side didn't help. Fortunately I have a small stash of crap joysticks, in the value range $2-5 from which I can steal a cable if I find one that is good, and replace this one, which already was replaced at least once in the last 40 years.
