One of the kids had a problem a few years ago where they had to make a new account (MS couldn't fix the issue) -- but since MS support was involved, they did move all the purchases to the new account.  Not sure about achievements, though, as that didn't matter to us.  But anything we spent money on was moved over.  They didn't want to, tried to pull the whole "we can't" nonsense and I had to argue a bit, but ultimately they could and did.

What reason did they give for making you start a new account?

I've tried several times to verify my account, name, credit card number, name tag and more. All I ever got were automated messages to try again and the finally I got one that said to start a new account.

I still keep trying to verify my original account and now it says: "We sent you a code to your account to verify" REALLY?????? They sent it TO the account I can't get into!!!!

You'll need ms phone support, and be persistent.

Got it back! I got thinking that my account was set up on my first XBOX One console, not the X version which I got later. I hooked it up and it had me put in a code sent to my e-mail account I had with it. I put it in and it to told me to change my password and now it's working! Haven't fired up the XBOX One X yet, but it should work when I put in the new password.

Doesn't seem so. Looks like Microsoft ties in your original machine to your account info. When I tried fixing my problem with my newer Xbox One X that had the same account on it, it wouldn't work!

What I don't understand is when I got my Xbox Series S (which was my first Xbox system), I logged with my Microsoft account I already use for Windows on any PC I use. So everything is sent to my GMail address, not my console, and I don't see how I couldn't use the same account on a new system. 🤔

Both of my Xboxs are on the same account on outlook.com. What I think Microsoft was trying to do was to keep someone or hacker from taking my account or using it! I think what started it was that I went into my account on my pc and there was a whole bunch of old e-mails from Microsoft about weekly specials and deleted a lot of them at once. They probably saw it as unusual activity and took action. I never logged into my account before that.

This happens a lot with older MS accounts. Mine gets hit with requests from Mainland China on a regular basis.
