Blitting into GPU RAM

The blitter isn't even reading the Z data, just writing it in this case, too! Even not writing the Z but having it interleaved is costing about 10fps. 😬

 

So I think using the Z buffer is pretty much a no-go, which is a huge shame.

Welcome to the reality of Jaguar programming. So much wich Sounds good and the just does not work due to design 'flaws'.

I'm sure someone with zero qualifications and huge thick rose tinted glasses will slowly pull the underpants off their head and tell him he's doing it wrong soon :)
