No, thanks.

...and you said people are trashtalking Atari. [/hj]

But seriously, while I do appreciate you not preaching to the choir about how great the 2600+ is for once, I should note that you should never judge a book by its cover. That's why we managed to fix the 2600+ in the first place, even when it was good, we wanted it better.

As for the rest of y'all...do please take care to be careful when ordering stuff like this. Make sure to give feedback...especially Atari has been paying close attention to the 2600/7800 scene recently.

This is the same emulation as Evercade, which runs arcade, 2600, 7800, and Lynx games flawlessly. I have confidence it will run 5200 games flawlessly too.

The dude you quoted (the one who drove John van Ryzin off the forums and generally makes this a worse place to be) seemed to think this was supposed to be arcade versions. It's not - this has arcade Millipede but 7800 Centipede, since that is the best version of the game for digital inputs.

The game list for those who missed it:

  • Asteroids (Arcade)
  • Berzerk (Arcade)
  • Canyon Bomber (Arcade)
  • Crystal Castles (Arcade)
  • Frenzy (Arcade)
  • Liberator (Arcade)
  • Lost Tomb (Arcade)
  • Millipede (Arcade)
  • Missile Command (Arcade)
  • Night Driver (Arcade)
  • Pong (Arcade)
  • Skydiver (Arcade)

I wonder if the new games on this H.M.T. Evercade, gives some hints about Atari acquiring new games IP, or if it’s based on licensing?

These are the same Stern, M-Network, and... whoever owned Miner 2049er games Atari has owned for 1-3 years now. Atari wrested Dirty Larry and Kung Food away from Piko two years ago and got Robo Squash and Warbirds back from Tommo last year. Nothing new revealed here.

There are still game picks here that make me grit my teeth (Tempest 2600, Pong [although they promise it's new and better], Super Breakout) but it is mostly great stuff compared to the 2600 collections. I understand why they left the vector games out, but I would have given my eye teeth for I Robot, Cloud 9, or Maze Invaders.

Y e a h . . . idk if he knows anything about Evercade tbh. I mean...does 7800 emulation have to be perfect? Okay, so you want your 7800 games to be like, idk, NES quality? Why not just get a famiclone already and shut up?

idk anymore, Mullet is obviously not the most sane individual and overreacts towards everything. Not to mention I feel he likes to start fights too much. In fact...yeah, there is a reason why I stay away from the off-topic now. Mostly because...well...he is a hypocrite and I think he has brought up politics unprovoked before. Note to the Mullet: I'm still left-leaning, much like Neil Peart of Rush.

...and I'll end that there and say "DUDE THE ATARI SUPER POCKET LOOKS AWESOME...but I had stuff like that before...and most of them get neglected and probably lost or sold eventually, just like how I sold my Atari GameStation Pro and my Hyperkin RetroN 1 AV famiclone."

This is approximately a million times better than those, though. The GSP isn't terrible for Atari arcade and 2600, but it's pretty bad for everything else. Plus this fits in your pocket.

I already spent money on an Atari 2600+ though...and I'm kinda trying to get a new laptop. Sorry.

This isn't an Atari product. It's an Evercade, licensing Atari's name.

I put this in the same category as the Lamestation "Pro". Just another knock off.

I didn’t think that at all.

i pointed out that it’s running Prosystem 1.3e which is 10 years out of date, and incorrectly displays the boundary box of 7800 Centipede. This is running an OLD version of Retroarch, which absolutely does NOT run the 7800 flawlessly. Far from it.

I didn't drive anyone off the board. The Mods banned him. Take it up with them.

Well, maybe the 7800 emulation is bad on Evercade, I'm not familiar enough with the 7800 to judge anyway, but that would be the first thing the Evercade doesn't do right imho. Comparing it with the Gamestation Pro is really unfair.

And I know very little about the Evercade, but when their promotional pictures show a game being run on a version of RA/prosysten that is very out of date, I have a tendency not to trust their quality control since no one caught it before they published it.

No, thanks.

what are you seeing in that screenshot that indicates its an outdated version?  I have no interest in getting one, but just curious what's the "tell" there because I wouldn't have known.

The top line of the bounding box/border around the playfield is the wrong color and has staggered “wings” hanging off it. This indicates it is using a base of Prosystem 1.3e

At the promotional picture in the first post of this thread, the one that I quoted that you then replied to and started making up lies about me:

Frankly, the picture might just be a Photoshop or a render anyway.

It might be. But it’s still a render showing it using an outdated version of an emulator that has a large number of glitches and is incompatible with nearly all of the home brews for the 7800, if it hasn’t been updated.

putting that image on official promotional material isn’t really a great look for the quality control of the promotional materials.

That green line really looks like a ProSystem related issue.

It is a prosystem issue. That’s exactly what I said it was.

there are newer builds of Prosystem where this is fixed. That green line is a “tell” that the underlying version of prosystem is old.

as Roots Genoa said - it might just be a bad mock up image with an old screenshot of Centipede 7800, but it’s a mock up that is wrong, so the marketing department who made it should know it’s wrong.

Oh, it is, in the screenshot they grabbed off the internet for the render. It isn't an issue on the actual device. I let them know about the error on Discord.

Unfortunately, there are A LOT of incorrect palette, poorly emulated, and overall crappy captures all over the internet for the 7800.

Such mishaps are easily avoided nowadays though.

Here are a slew with proper aspect ratio and accounting for screen boarders:
