Mini-review of The Atari Super Pocket:

9/10

Pros

  - excellent game line-up content (given the price tag); 50 games representing a wide and large portion of Atari history is right here!
Unless you hate Ataris classic-age games, your almost sure to find plenty of fun here..!

Cons:

  - the screen is well lit but way-too-small for many early arcades

  - too few screen settings

  - no way to re-allign the buttons

BTW: Funstock and Songbird arrived for me to pick up locally on the same day.

The only way I see such a device could’ve done better, would be with a dual set of Evercade VS or Bartop Arcade (8inch screen) + Evercade EXP, building in a unique Special Edition line-up of the Atari 50th including all DLCs and some other stuff, amounting to 150++ games.

Reason why? To make a statement & raise some eyebrows out there,  and the VS or Tabletop Barcade to bring it to bigger screens (which really feels needed), and the EXP to provide handheld options with a good enough screen for both early Arcades and later games.

what do you mean? Customize the buttons?

Yes, I found no way to do so.

Particulary Night Driver got pretty vicious the way it was set up.

I mean - the driver already is facing darkness, has to manouver with stealth through it all - but the car is additionally set up to give the driver the cramps?

Is this like trying hard to ve the Stephen King version…?

‘A Nightdrive down Curserow13?’

To be fair you need to shift, and I can't think of a better mapping than the hand cramping one they chose. Can you?

Yes, I can Sir.

Gas : A

Break: B

Gears: L2, L1, R2, R1

Indeed, you can't. You meant "re-assign" instead of "re-allign". 😉

Actually I should’ve used reassignef for realigned with only one ‘l’. But it may be a chance the the word realign couid sort of work.

«realign

verb

re· align ˌrē-ə-ˈlīn

realigned; realigning; realigns

transitive verb

: to align again

especially  : to reorganize or make new groupings of

Examples of realign in a Sentence

We had to realign the text to fit it on the page.

The car's wheels were realigned

——

My drift was reorganize the button-settings.

I was listening to loud music, my mind was on several topics at the same time and it was late.

Shit, it wasn’t that late. Guess I just should’ve have thrown in a typo warning.

Or just learn to write better?

— — —

Well, enough sidetrackings; back to the games and consoles.

Night Driver is pretty akward and cramped to play having to place ones index finger on the back of the Super Pocket unit, holding down the button, no not the one directly on the shoulder, but the one on back of the device, while simultaenously using the thumb on the same hand to switch gears…(pushing fire-buttons).

Its actually a surprisingly machosistic setup. I mean just to come up with that idea in the first place.

I mean, c’mon - this isn’t a game about holding guitar chords, its a driving game for goodness sake.

This button setup would do better in hyper-advanced mode on Guitar Hero or something…

That would mean using the shoulder buttons a lot more, which isn't great on the Super Pocket, and wouldn't work on the original Evercade or the Alpha (for the cart version).

Blaze seriously need a firmware update to implement button reallocations, reassingnments… whatever the word.

Ok, ok I get it

Its reass- something

Not re—ass-something

Sorry folks, my typo!

Btw: yeah, it was really a comfort to know that on the better Evercade devices I can reassign the button mapping in luxurious option menus… all 50 of these Atari games being like built (bricked in?) in the HyperMegaTech.

Its time for an Atari Evercade Exp, or simply a unique set of cartridges with Atari 50th lined up for Evercade (Atari should be quite able to make common runs, exclusive runs, boxed super exclusive runs given their past cart-release history, or, a-hem.)

I finally cancelled my amazon pre order for the new evercade and atari pocket.  Video games plus came through for me in less than a week to IL.

Very cool and fun little device but a bit too small of a screen for regular play.  I would like to see carts offered with the various games that come on all the pockets.

I'm not particular about what words you use, I just saw an opportunity for a fun riff on @GoldLeader 😅

I can handle some flak when I introduce a new adverb into english:

‘reassing’ - to return something to a poor state, either as assbad as formerly or even worse.

Example of Use: the console underwent severe reassing as the company tried hard to invent new ways to frustrate and mentally torture unsuspecting gamers.

Unfortunately the companies represented on Super Pockets appear to have gotten too expensive to do carts for (or just won't do carts period like Taito and Capcom). Maybe we will get company specific EXPs or Alphas in the future.

You know what happens when you reassign... you make an ASS out of... Resident Evil and IGN? I guess?

Reassign not reASSign...

heh

Typo?  Oh,  Not sure I even noticed that!

HMMmmm

Lemme ReASSess the situation...

Yup!   Think I was just getting the word ASS in there for some reason :)

_____________________________________________________________________

TL:DR

ASS   ASS Ass ASS  ASS!

And another thing,

ASS!!!
