supersprint
I just got a 5200 as a gift. As the title says, I have no audio and there is no response from any of the joysticks. The video looks good, demo screens for all 4 carts display as expected. What I have done: RF modulator was dead, performed the power mod Tested all 4 ports using 3 different sticks Checked TV audio with another device. Baked the pokey at 350 for 5 min and then 60 min. Removed the pokey entirely. In all cases, the behavior is exactly the same. Sockets/pins look clean, no apparent solder problems on the socket. I am thinking I need a new pokey. Suggestions? +-^CrossBow^-
Yeap...likely a bad Pokey as it handles controller functions and all audio on the console.
supersprint
Fixed: Tuned out it wasn't the pokey at all. The joysticks just needed their contacts cleaned (likely flex to cable interface) and now all is well. I assumed a couple of things, all wrong. 1. That out of three joysticks, at least one start or player select button would work. Wrong. 2. That of the 4 games I have at least one would make some type of sound before pressing start. Wrong. 3. Since no joystick worked and I wasn't getting any sound, I assumed it was the pokey. Wrong. This is my first 5200, so I blame it on ignorance. Do 5200 games not have any attract sounds? I contacted Brad at Best Electronics to purchase a pokey. He's been great to work with. Fast response, very helpful and encouraged me to refurbish the stick before assuming it was the pokey. Saved me $30+ shipping. Sprint
+-^CrossBow^-
I think Frogger might be the only game I can think of that plays audio as soon as you power on the console. It is the same for the 2600 in that most games of that era didn't have attract modes, and didn't play audio until the game was started. either way, glad you got it resolved without needing a Pokey as they aren't that easy to come by these days for a good price. And I'm sure as you found out from talking with Bradley that even he only allows a single pokey purchase per person..for life at this point in time.
