‘YARS RISING’ COMIC BOOK PROMOTES VIDEO GAME 42 Years After Previous Atari Game and Comic

While I'm still not 100% sold on this new Yars game, I really like that they are doing this. I'll check it out once available.

On a similar note that hasn't gotten much attention, the Asteroids Recharged Arcade machine has a comic accompanying it too. These were available for free at CAX. I've spoken a bit with the artist, who is fantastic.

Myself and a real comic book writer are working on the comic for the next game - Alan-1 will release comics for all of the arcade machines they do. It's going to be great!

If it is Yars Recharged, we could get two Yars comics.

There will be a Yars Recharged arcade machine, but it's still a little ways off. They are talking about a completely different cabinet design so it will take some time to develop - but every Recharged game will be getting the treatment at some point. That will include a comic book, and the stories will all be tied together in some way ;)

I am sure that is the plan, but I bet the plans for some of them would be cancelled if the first ones do poorly.

Not by what I've seen discussed. They have a three year license to launch all of the Recharged games as arcade titles, but given how their factory is setup, they can do a "print on demand" kind of thing, so if one doesn't sell well, it won't be a huge setback like it normally would with a typical factory product.

The next game is probably going to be among those that won't be a huge seller, but then the game in the Spring will be a much better known title (I know what they are but no decision has been made on what's next after that)

So all cabinets are to be more or less the same, just different prints and controls?

Edit:

I just saw that you wrote Yar´s Revenge Recharged would be different, but what about the rest?

It's still early to say, but I've heard them mention a few ideas, including a very different design for Missile Command. The next game will re-use the same cabinet as Asteroids though. I think since that cabinet has been vetted a bunch, they want to get the most out of it (presently in the arcade biz, it's far more common to design a new cabinet each time you release a new game but that is more expensive to do)

Perhaps plan A is to have different cabinets with improved Recharged games, but if business is not good, they will use existing cabinet designs with less improved games for the remaining games.

I think they should turn the screen 90 degrees anti-clockwise, and let the players use a yoke. @Jimmy Wicker

If I wake up one day and find out they are using light guns for Missile Command Recharged, and yokes for Yar´s Recharged, I would like some royalties. :)
