Csonicgo
I think there should be a hack for indy 500 to use paddle controllers. not only for ease of use, but for 4 player action. ANyone like this idea?
Kuddy
What's the original driving controller like? I'm assuming you keep it rotated at a certain degree to make turns?
Cropsy
The problem with this idea is that you can only turn a paddle so far left or right before it stops. Indy 500 relies on being able to turn left or right indefinitely. The level on the first Atari Age screen shot (link below) can be driven by only turning right, with a paddle that won't work. http://www.atariage.com/screenshot_page.ht...wareLabelID=

ANyone like this idea? Sorry, but you cannot simply hack paddle controls into DC or joystick games. The Atari paddles require constant polling during a long period incl. the display kernel!. And normally there is not enough free CPU time left inside the display routines.
Csonicgo
well.... driving controllers shouldn't have been so darn scarce.

Thomas Jentzsch
Better idea - Hack Indy500 to be Deathrace Love running those skeletons over Nah, wait for Glenn finishing his homebrew. I am very optimistic that eventually it will happen.
Rob Mitchell
Better idea - Hack Indy500 to be Deathrace Love running those skeletons over I just love running over skeletons on Halloween! (I just gotta finish programming Death Race for the Vectrex!) Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA
Susuwatari
There is still a way to make Indy 500 friendly with paddle: make paddle like a steering wheel. Keep the paddle centered, you drive in straight line. Turn the knob to the right, you turn right. Turn knob to the left, you turn left. The only drawback is the paddle is not slef centering. Yes, as far as the mechanics go, that would work. It would still require tons of coding changes though, possibly not doing in the size of the original cart, and possibly requiring a whole new kernal. Susuwatari
The hardest part would be to actually get the paddle subroutine to work without altering the existing graphics. As I understand, reading paddle takes more cycles than joystick.

This wouldn't be possible AT ALL with a paddle. What about the "oval" tracks where all you do is turn right. You would turn right about three times and the paddle would stop turning. And if you did use the centering option, you would be trying to find center all the time and wouldn't be able to find it once you are done turning (end up turning the other way) I don't think it is a good idea
