+OLD CS1
Not mine, but looks very neat. Good pictures in the auction, it appears to not be a smart device (no CPU.) https://ebay.com/itm/126616145778
carlsson
800 dollars?! Yes, it is a rare device and enough desired for people to consider replicating but it seems out of the world.

I would not expect to pay more than a couple hundred.

carlsson
Oh, did you make an offer and got a counter-offer? Well, in my book $100 should be enough on its own for this device. I believe the market value was around $50 around 2006. While all vintage computing and gaming items have become more valuable in the past 10-15 years, it seems silly if the value would increase by 1500% or whatever it is. But hey, as long as you have a number of auctions per month for free before someone puts a bid on them, eBay becomes a shopping window where you can put things for sale at whichever prices. Hehehe No. It is a little trick that I pull. If you watch an item, in most cases you will get an offer from the seller. So I watch items sometimes just to see what the seller will offer. As neat as this is, and the fact that I have no practical use for it, I do not see any reason to pay more than a couple of hundred dollars for it.
carlsson
Aha. It sounds like the seller knows it is overpriced if they contact everyone watching the item and making offers on the side. Does eBay really allow that, even if the sale takes place through the platform?

Does eBay really allow that, even if the sale takes place through the platform? It is a feature built in eBay if you are a seller. I have used it in the past for my own items where I may have several people watching and nobody jumping so I can send a blanket offer to everybody. It does not and cannot be used to send offers to individual or specific people.
carlsson
Ok, so it wasn't a special price just for you, it was a special price to everyone watching the item.
