Centuriontech.eu ST2VGA r4

Recommended Posts

I just received a Centuriontech.eu ST2VGA r4 for use with my usa model STe (60hz). I do not currently own an actual VGA monitor but two televisions with VGA ports. Both are older LCD sets. With the switch set to HIGH on the ST2VGA neither TV displays the ST video image. One says this resolution is not supported, the other just a black screen. I've never used the ST at high resolution, should it boot to high resolution mode if the switch is set to HIGH on the ST2VGA? Is the high-resolution mode of the ST normally compatible with most VGA screens, or does the screen need to support a special non-standard mode?

Ultimately, I would like to order that Dell monitor that works in all three ST resolutions, 50/60Hz (Is this correct?)

The ST2VGA does not contain any circuitry that allows it to function with 99% of modern monitors with a VGA connection.

Your VGA monitor needs to be compatible with the 15KHz VGA signal output by Atari ST computers.

There’s is a link for compatible monitors at the top of the first post titled Atari ST, TT, Falcon links

There are two other methods to display a video image from your STE computer.

1. Attach a coaxial phono cable from the Television connector on your Computer, to a phono-F adapter to the cable connector on your TV and switch your TV to channels 2,3 or 4.

2. Connect a composite video cable to a Monitor Master switch box plugged into your computer, with the other end of the cable connected to your TV. If you don’t have a Monitor Master switch box, then you can use a ATARI ST QUALITY TV COMPOSITE VIDEO/AUDIO RCA LEAD which is sold on EBay from the UK for $11.59+shipping.

2 will provide a sharper picture than 1. Both 1 and 2 only show color video, not high resolution video.

I do not agree.

When in St High, the frequency is not 15khz, its the double. So a standard VGA monitor is ok.

Guillaume.

Unfortunately not all, I have many older VGA monitors, but the 27" one I want to use will not display STE high res,

even I was surprised, I am using one of those Centuriontech.eu ST2VGA r4.

It's fine with everything else, even a really old PC running MS-DOS, but not STE

Yes, currently none of my monitors will produce colour resolutions on my monitors, but I can use High res with the switch in the correct position.

Hopefully getting a convertor today which will allow all resolutions via VGA

Tonight, I tried my 1040 STFm and both my VGA televisions still did not work. I didn't think there would be any difference between the STe and the STFm, but wanted to give it a try. I'm going to grab a monitor from a friend and try that in a few days. I should just go ahead and order the Dell SE2722H as the chance I have a bad ST2VGA adapter is probably low.
