I've been to gaming conventions in Manchester and Blackpool.

Although not a convention, and no games for sale, if you want to play classic arcade and console games Bury is the home of Arcade Club, which is now quite famous, it's been around for years. It's a really good day out and serves food and alcohol too.

Arcade Club is awesome.  They also have a branch in Blackpool right next to Blackpool Stadium.  I'm heading there on Saturday night after Play Expo.

If either of you go drop me a message and we'll get a mini Atari + convention going lol

I don't think I'll be going this time, but if I do I'll give you a shout 👍🏻 Would be good to meet some people from here, great community.

Yes they do, the original is the Bury one, they have heavily pushed the Blackpool one though, lots of adverts, which makes sense with Blackpool's arcade culture, but I haven't been (long sentence there! 🤣). How does it compare?

Hi,

what confuses me is the information the this is an ARM based software emulator based on Pro-System. How would the emulator load the content of the cartridge into its RAM? That emulator has been in untouched maintenance for 10 years. Also would is be compatible with new homebrews / bank switch schemes and complex cartridges like Rikki & Vikki?

Kind regards, Peter

Pro system has been maintained and updated many times in the last 10 years by Raz0red, who is working directly with Atari and Plaion.

Not as big as Bury or Leeds but still a really good selection of games.  They're all good but the original is still the best!  Wish they would open a site up here in Scotland.

Paddles. It's an interesting one, but has some complications, firstly 2600+ Paddle resolution and jitter needs to be improved to 7800+ level, I still don't know if we can do this.

Hi Ben,

being very old school, wireless controllers aren't really a priority for me, but what I do think is important is improving 2600+ paddle fidelity. Paddle games are a key part of the 2600's character and rather dear to me.

Your statement above makes me worry that perhaps hope for paddle improvement  is now slipping away for the 2600+, in the face of the incoming 7800+.

Whilst I'm sure the 7800+ will be a capable machine, I much prefer the 2600+ aesthetic.

Am I headed for the frustrating situation of not being able to have the best of both worlds in terms of looks AND functionality (IMHO of course)?

Any update on the 2600+ paddle situation would be greatly appreciated, as I've not seen too much news about it lately.

Thank you for all the hard work,

Dave.

Since Atari is interested in making new controllers, is Atari interested in making something similar to the NES Max. It's a four button controller with the extra buttons working as a turbo fire.

... so what's inside the 2600+/7800+?

Hi, I commented on this earlier in the week.

I'd say that's unlikely.

What’s in the 2600+ is based on Raz0red’s Wii port of prosystem. It’s far more advanced and compatible than anything you’re looking at.

Thank you Mr Mullet for reminding me to do my daily reflective moment where I stare high up into the sky and quietly whisper thank you Raz0red.

Paddle jitter is less with the 7800+?

If this is the case, I might reverse my decision and think about getting a 7800+ after all.

Yes, did you see my video with Kaboom on the 7800+.

However whilst there is a software improvement in the 7800+, paddles also crap out in 2600+ and 7800+ physically causing jitter (can usually be fixed with some lubricant sprayed in the potentiometer).

And then again, 2600+ software jitter maybe fixed in an update.

Oh wow. No, I hadn't seen it, but just did now. It looks great! I'll keep my hopes up for an update with jitter improvement for the 2600+, but Kaboom on the 7800+ does look nice, and that's one of my favorite games. 🙂

Maybe you can take some time to catch up by reading various topics here on AA before jumping to any conclusions 😉 A lot has been done to improve the compatibility of the 2600+ and thus the 7800+. Sadly Rikki & Vikki does not run on the 2600+/7800+, but most of the homebrews (2600 and 7800) do.

A.o. this topic is very interesting:

I’m new to the Atari scene, I played a little in school as a kid and over at a friends house. I decided to pick up the 7800+ and a few games the miner 2049er sequel, caverns of mars, and another one can’t remember off hand. I also picked up a copy of Yars Revenge for super cheap. I cleaned the game and was shocked no dirt came off at all so I’m pretty happy about that. Yars just looks really cool to me for whatever reason.

it’s really nice Atari is putting out these systems. Old Atari systems are getting pretty expensive these days and it’s cool that you can hook it through hdmi.

really looking forward to it
