Atari 7800+ announced, along with 10 new games and 2 new controllers

Frenzy is not as classic of a game as berserk is. but when you have played a lot of rounds of berzerk, then going back to playing frenzy with its unusual rules that you won't be expecting from playing a bunch of berzerk, that is worth its weight in gold.

Oh don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a rip off necessarily.  you're getting a different product, and maybe some people want those two games  separately, and are willing to pay for it. But I do think it was done to make more money. Or maybe make it seem like they have a bigger lineup.

Personally, i'm glad that my game has an option to switch between the modes.

how are they making "More" money if the price is exactly the same?

And there are more materials to pay for. Hmmm 🤔🤷🏻

If you guys want a good laugh or see how an AtariAge member compares the 7800+ with some Chinese emulation console, you should take a look at this topic:

(a very friendly joke from me: @John Stamos Mullet go ahead and do your thing, you have my blessing 🤣🤣)

He's not worth arguing with. It's like arguing with a bot who was programmed by a 3rd grade dropout.

You are right, I was surprised by his argument that a Chinese console with thousands of illegal roms is a better deal than buying a console and games of a legit publisher.

I have found that having hundreds of thousands of roms might be good to peek and check on different titles though it's very easy to forget what you have and dilutes the experience in some cases. Having used emulation for years there's a different experiance and relationship when your sitting down with one game, physically too for that matter and giving time to it, rather then scrolling through pages upon pages of roms you will quickly get lost in the sea of.

A perfect example of why sometimes more is less.

I agree completely.

We were never meant to have access to every game ever made at all times.

I guess to follow up on my last post, i got into heavy emulation when i was like 13 and it's only in the last year or so i have kind of realized being in a sea of games just makes me care less and less about any of them, because how can i? They are all just files on a screen, easily superseded by the next binge session of trying this and that, i never finish any of them because with so many on my plate, i might as well sample the whole lot (or attempt to). I literally will be dead before i can even play a quarter of them, and having memories as a kid playing Final Fantasy or Zelda rings far deeper in me then playing some other game through an emulator. I never really understood that whole bit of having less and growing memories with the few single games straggling about and being content, and on the original hardware which while for years i thought was pointless and stupid, am coming to realize it's part of the experience and important to that experience overall.

You certainly have a point there, but my remark was related to the things said in that specific topic. If you read it, you will probably understand what I mean 😉

Not uuuuup North either 😉

In November the Centre for Computing History in Cambridge hosts the annual Retro Computer Festival on the 9th and 10th. It will be a good show for your credit card, because it is primarily a demonstration convention, not a "sales" convention 😉

Together with my friends of the Dutch "Atari Invasion"-team we will be there as an exhibitor to bring some Atari to the party 😃

This is not really the topic to post about this, but because I originally posted in this thread that we (Atari Invasion and Atarimuseum.nl) would be present as exhibitors at the annual Retro Computer Festival in Cambridge on November 9 and 10th I want to let interested people know that we decided NOT to be there because of a dispute with the organizers. So no 2600+ there 😞

We will be looking at other meetings/shows in the UK to "bring Atari to the party!" 😃

Hello all, just got back from a trip to China to see the wrapping up of manufacture of the 7800+. Got lots to share  over the next few weeks in the build up to release.

Here's a quick video of the 7800+ being finished up with an automated robot screwing in the back of the machine

Come on, make more money? It's not how we think about things. This doesn't even come into our thinking. We are shipping these games simply with the intention of offering separate products for people to experience the games, Honestly, shipping them separately or together is not a deeply thought out decision, bottom line is that we are talking about a few thousand units of sales either way. Cut me some slack here.

I don’t speak for everyone, but I like that the majority of games being released are individual and not bundles. Especially when it’s top titles like Bezerk and Frenzy. The sports and M-Network bundles make sense, but I don’t need (or want) one cart with 64 games on it.

We are drawn to this platform because of the flexibility of playing carts. If I wanted an all in one, I’d buy a flashback console instead.

Exactly, for the latest 2600 carts like M-network collection, Epyx Collection and Real Sports collection it makes sense that they are multi game carts, but for 7800 games being one game per cart I think is wholley acceptable and understandable.

Please bear in mind the niche sales potential of all the products we make available to market with these specific offerings.

Ben can you tell me if that’s my order being processed? Lol. I was wondering where you were! Where did you stay when you were there? Did you tour the Blue Button Factory while you were there? Lol.

I think you are on the 7800+ VIP box list.

It's all kicking off big time in the next few weeks.

I own most options including the flash consoles and nothing compares to OG Atari and Atari+, The only flash systems that I really like are the portable ones.

The feel of a cart going home and the think of a switch really gets one in the gaming mood.

I can say from my own perspective i did not want a 2600+ because i already own an OG sixer i inherited from my grandfather; so the overall look was not really something i found interest to me (i found it kind of small also in comparison to the full size sixer). The 7800+ while mostly the same internally from my understanding to a 2600+, i never had one since it was before i was born and the look is far more appealing to me from a design choice, and the controllers and pack in are much more appealing to me as a consumer. My only hope is new content is created to support the 7800+ / 2600+ in the long term, and that the emulation is further expanded to handle the more impressive and bigger titles like Attack of the PETSCII Robots or Rikki and Vikki, because as time goes on, and assuming more strides are made with the hardware, the emulation should be able to handle anything (or close to) that's thrown at it, peripherals as well. I will be picking this up for sure upon release.

Dude I have had a non stop trip to the factory over the last week. Indeed the factory was the same guys that made the blue button stuff. It was a whistle stop tour. Lots to talk about....you came up in conversation a couple of times... I remember saying well we need to sort x out cause MrChickenz needs it!
