Atari 7800+ announced, along with 10 new games and 2 new controllers

Recommended Posts

Was getting excited last week as my original Amazon Australia order for Bounty Bob had a shipping date of Nov 8 but as the date passed further investigations elsewhere have the date as the 29th 🤪 Certainly very much looking forward to playing Bob's Bob 😁😁😁

I believe in selling games of niche-categories at several price ranges in line with how special

or unique the edition is.

If a normal new game isolated is worth $30, then a game with additional chips could be justified to go for $30+X, where X is the price of extra chips.

At AA we see prices that are close for cart + box + manual.

But no or few ‘special editions’ given to $99 or $120.

We could be super-picky and count every Cent, and then it ends because it costs money to develop.

I certainly believe there must be standard versions for these games that seems reasonable for ‘any retrogame game collector’

I don't have a problem with the special editions. But the base price being $60 for a 2600 game is steep, and I don't really care about the QR code/high score/registration nonsense. Atari Selling new games for $30 proves the $60 price point is too high.

I will do that, nearer the time.

If it's a success, maybe we should do more hi-score challenges, with a longer time frame

Good idea, I'll play! 🤟🏻

I am also not the greatest, I'm no pro gaming Twitch streamer, but I'll enjoy it regardless.

Perhaps we could play the new releases coming up too, lots of fun to be had and fitting as we will be playing on 2600+/7800+ consoles (I won't use my OGs for this).

Good exposure for the new games too!

I assume Christmas day in your local time zone. So we begin with New Zealand and end with Alaska. So the whole event takes 2 days but you pick your 24 hours from your own time zone. Ok?

Okay, right.

Let's have a Christmas day only 7800+ Galaga hi-score competition.

Who's up for it?

I'm in!

I'm even going to do the Rocky IV montage with music and start exercising my hands, moisturizing them. Doing squats off the couch, lifting and lowering my energy drink. Maybe even wearing a headband.

I'll be looking forward to this: you playing Galaga in the snow, you playing Galaga in a barn, you playing Galaga while chopping wood

Perhaps we need two competitions. The highest score. The most hardcore gamer picture of playing Galaga.

I’ve cancelled my 7800+ pre-order, am going to wait until there’s a parity 2600+ available even if it takes another year or never happens. Only ordered the 7800+ as it does what the original 2600+ should have had (better socket/more controller support)

I've never been any good at Galaga but it will be fun for us all to have a festive attempt

Me neither, but I do like the game.  I don't have Galaga.  Instead I have Galagon for the 2600 which is the same thing.  I play it on my 7800.

Is Galagon good?

I just had a quick look and apparently it's a pretty pricey cart

Yes it is.  I got it CIB from Champ Games last year.  On their website it's $40 as a loose cart.  Or you can just get the ROM which is cheaper.

I second that! I have it as well, mine I purchased from AtariAge. Great port! Unfortunately it will not load on the 2600+ as of yet but I understand they are working on it. Hopefully soon. One of my favorites!

Same here. I'm sticking with the 2600+, even if it never supports the keypad and driving controller..
