SS
I am wondering how/if the official Atari "Berzerk" release will differ from the version included on the "Frenzy" AA cart?

In the main thread I asked Al about it and he said "Yes, they are the same games, however, the title screens have been changed to reflect ownership of the IP by Atari. The games are no longer 2-in-1, Frenzy and Berzerk live alone in each of those two cartridges.". I said it was a bit cheeky to split them up seeing as the reason Berzerk was included is that it was simple enough for Bob to turn off features of Frenzy in the code and that the AA release was therefore better value so Al replied "The boxed version of Frenzy in the AtariAge Store is $50.00 (and I'm out of boxes at the moment), so $30 for each of the games with a box seems fair to me. This also means Berzerk gets more attention, with a proper box, manual, and cartridge label. It's likely these new games will replace what's currently in AtariAge Store when they overlap like this, but that won't likely always be the case, depends on the individual games." 3
JagChris
Atari should have done this all at once offering both form factors instead of this. And the fact that Atari hasn't issued an official patch for the 2600+ yet is rather disconcerting.

Quote The 'community' built experimental software and the 'official' software is one and the same thing. Re-stocks of the 2600+ have already shipped with updated firmware. Latest firmware update, with all needed files for the 2600+ console, in a one archive download including step-by-step instructions, is here: 1

I'm fine with Berzerk being it's own cart, but I'm disappointed that it won't feature any quality of life improvements. With the cart all to itself and possibly using a different audio chip, it'd be great to have cleaner speech, ideally without pausing the game. It's not as simple as just throw a different audio chip into the cart and the game will produce cleaner speech. It would require significant (re)programming, possibly entire re-writes of the audio portions and its integration throughout the game, along with testing, and tweaking, fixes and patching, for arguably very little gain or nearly insignificant difference to how the speech currently performs under the game. Available resources are much better spent elsewhere, like working on another (new) game.

I just watched a video where the creator said he was waiting for an official postiing but there wasn't one and they finally used this instead. So there are people out there not widely aware that this has moved to the official status.
