Bounty Bob Strikes Back! 7800+

Recommended Posts

What would’ve been cool is if the pack in game for the 7800+ was STAR RAIDERS STRIKES BACK! A 7800 version of course.

I think this new 7800 version does look better. Screenshots as shared above in this topic, for easy comparison.

I wonder why the colours where swapped round? The green and purple elements. Well, I actually prefer the new version anyway, maybe Bob (the dev, not the character!) did too.

It looks wonderful. Am I crazy or are there additional elements in the stage as well??

I actually like the colors in the 7800 version better!

They did splash some more color in there, however pixel for pixel they look a lot the same.

And I'm only happy to see another game carry over from the 8-bit computers so well to the 7800.

Look nice doesn't it! I played the Spectrum version of this years ago, a surpisingly good port, it's a fun game so this is one that I am especially looking forward to. I am hoping that it's prequel, Miner 2049er, will be released as an enhanced version in the next round of 2600 carts too. Al confirmed that both games are Atari IP.

I was curious if it would have graphical enhancements, but looks like he went the pixel-perfect route (with more color)

Maybe we'll get a 320B video mode version later on ;)

I wonder not only how it looks in motion but what the speed is like. 7800 ports of 800 games usually seem to run faster

I was thinking more enhanced sprites.   For instance, somebody did a Miner 2049er  Atari 8-bit hack some years ago and replaced the Bounty Bob sprite with something that looked more like the character on the game's cover.  I thought that was a welcome improvement.   But if you enhance graphics like that there's always going to be people who say "that's not what it's supposed to look like!" so going pixel-perfect is at least safe :)

The 7800 can handle sprites better than the 800, so it could easily be faster.   I don't know that this game needs to be faster though..

The game randomizes the color scheme of the platforms for every level

Ah, interesting. Thank you.

The good old Speccy version didn't, but that is the Speccy, and we all know how the colour was on that machine. 🤣

Yeah,  I wonder if the 7800 version will randomize the colors too?

This is atarimania's screenshot for for the Atari8 version, and I like this color scheme better than the one posted above,  but you never know what you will get when you play it :)

That's why I'm curious to see it in motion, but where it's Bob, I'm sure it'll be properly tuned.

It would be cool to see a more colorful Bounty Bob though ;)

He should port Miner 2049er too, since the 2600 version is widely considered to be crap

There are already multiple hacks of the Miner 2049er that are much improved. One may be released by Atari as Miner 2049er Enhanced one day. Speculation of course. 😋

Do a search and you'll find them, all much better than the original, which was too slooooooow. To combat that I always jump instead or walk, it helps, a bit. 🤣

Cool, but are they all stuck with only 3 levels?  Or are there hacks that add the rest?

Take a look here:

I think they are just improved rather than expanded. How many levels are there in other versions?

TBH, three levels was all that anyone had time for in the 2600 version, waaaay tooooo sloooooow

There's 10 in the original Atari 8-bit version,  but I believe some of the ports to other platforms added more levels to the original ten?

Miner was licensed in a unique way, and some of companies that licensed it not only created more levels but made unofficial "Miner 2049er II" sequels
