Simplified version of the widget mod should work: https://www.unige.ch/medecine/nouspikel/ti99/widget.htm

Yes. One of the things I going to try once my board and parts arrive. I would like to see a proper 4 slot machine, the MSX community has done that, we are missing out on it, and our existing ti99 os supports it as well.

Hmm. You know what would be nice? What if we put a switch on each port to suppress reset-on-insert like the stock widget does? Best of both worlds.

Looking good. Missing the power supply connector as well.

Yeah, I really don’t like the screw terminal connector.

i have two ideas in mind:

1. A physical 4-pin connector, maybe a moles type thing

2. like the 4a, have a cable and plug that will plug into the power supply.

The provided case stl files from the GitHub.

The case isn’t bad, but could use some refinement.

1. The stand-offs on the bottom of the case need to be taller so the rear facing I/O port can be used. Right now is at the same level as the bottom of the opening. Thus, plugging in the speech synthesizer or the flex cable interface is impossible.IMG_9315.thumb.jpeg.45bade6165d4b820958eabc3b7ad5871.jpeg

2. No opening in the top of the case to plug in cartridges.

3. The top case is too tall to plug in cartridges. It could be about half its height. This may be due to the keyboard being integrated into the top case half.

4. The keyboard is off center. It would just be more pleasing on the eyes and drive my OCD crazy looking at an off center keyboard.IMG_9308.thumb.jpeg.3e342a8ed7e2081c14ce1e67941e5522.jpeg

Where and what part number did you use for the cartridge port? I'm trying to compare it with one from Mouser.

Sadly. I forgot to order the cartridge port connector I will have to find it on ebay or hopefully Amazon. As I don't have enough other parts to buy to do another minimum 100 dollar mouser order.

This should work right?

Should, it looks exactly like one in a TI. The one in the TI is an AMP 532640-1 8246

How are people's builds going?

Anyone have life yet?

Mine is starting today, most of this Sunday was setting things up, and organizing all the parts and arranging my webcam to record my progress.

Today, I will at least get the "unicorn board" build, and then tomorrow I will do the keyboard, and then start the big 99/22 board on Tuesday, and I think that will take me at least two or three sessions to complete, we will see how it goes, and I will post my progress here and on my Twitter and Discord as well.

I'm going to scavenge a motherboard to make sure I have trustworthy parts, and not looking forward to all that desoldering. So it might be a while before I even put in the Mouser order. Plus, if I'm going that far, I may as well pull the spare vram to fix a couple others laying around, and that's a much quicker project ...

For mine 99/22 build I'm just going to mount the power supply, motherboard, unicorn, keyboard to this open air backplate that just arrived from Amazon.

As I'm going to be doing a lot of modifications and testing new add-ons so I don't need a cover.

It is just a bit over 17" by 13" which is just enough room for the 3" x 5" power supply at the top left. The motherboard along the top next to the power supply and the unicorn below the power supply and the keyboard in the center below the motherboard.

I will take a picture tomorrow showing them in place.

I was looking at the same one when I was thinking about that a couple of weeks ago.  You will probably have to drill holes to get it all to be able to mount though.  But it should work out nicely.

The fully enclosed case I am working on will use 99% acrylic sheets that I will cut on my laser cutter.

Hope to have it done soon and will post pics.

I was looking at acrylic sheets as well there was different sizes you could buy on Amazon but none at least the right size for the bottom plate.

I bought some sticky PCboard standoffs so I don't have to drill holes or want to move them around.

The ticky part is getting the right board level height so that a regular original speech unit or firehose can plug in at the correct height at the back.

Depending if these standoffs I bought are too high or too low I will measure it and order different sticky plastic ones at the right height.

The other factor is placing the keyboard at a little angle so the top row is higher then the bottom row to make it more natural to type on.

so what I measured and I still need to prove it out is with a 1/8 inch acrylic sheet some 20mm standoffs will get the board to the perfect height, but of course this also accounts for some 3mm rubber feet on the bottom of the case.  The feet that came with the open-air frame is probably 7 or 8mm or even more, so you may need to adjust the standoffs accordingly.

For those looking for 99/22 kits, one of the larger kit sellers in China as put up 100 available for $68 plus shipping:

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/116338959235

Not sure the quality of this place, the key thing is their 9900 and 9901 chips good.

The kit does not contain any of the resistors, or caps, or connectors needed, just the silicon ics.

Why two CPU's tough? Is there a dual CPU feature on the 99/22 board or something?
