New socket but it's soldered on upside down :(

I was wandering what the heck I was doing wrong because it wouldn't go back together right.

The top pcb is the new one.

Just as a litte status report: I now (don't judge, I'm a little...uhm...thorhough) have tested all my 82 2600 games and everyhing works perfectly. The grip of the slot is pretty tight, but that might change after some use.

Thats what I want to hear, thanks for your thorough testing!

That should help with keeping the cart pins clean! 👍

Are they soldered by hand? Or how can this happen?

If it were me...instead of desoldering the port to swap it around, I would just use my x-acto or other sharp hobby knife and remove the excess plastic around the base. The port it self is still centered the issue is the plastic on the base prevents it from seating back into the cartridge molded sleeve on the bezel portion. So, yeah, I would just try and cut and remove that excess plastic. You won't see any of it anyway once it is all back together.

I installed mine last night, but as I had the older style it was a right bear to do and I basically had to remove every single screw and completely remove the bezel around the switches etc. It was.... interesting to hold that stuff into place manually while trying to get some of the screws back in afterwards. Also the ribbon cables had to be twisted of course to match up, but also they are just about long enough to reach so there isn't must play in the ribbons to move them where needed.

Games like Galaxian or Pitfall! might be a problem but you should be able to play Asteroids with no issues! 😄

I'm back in the office Monday and can send you another no worries, I'll double check the cart positioning but pretty sure what you got was a one off human error. EVery single 2600+ manufactured has a final cart insertion and diagnostic check....these IO PCBs I've given away have been likely hand made and the guy doing them just messed yours up.

One thing to note people that have received the update cartridge socket boards, I didnt check what dumper version was flashed to the MCU, so you might want to check that if you're on anything other then 1.0 firmware.

Received and installed mine yesterday.   Thanks @Ben from Plaion!

Due to tolerance stack on my particular 2600+, I found that it was necessary to file down some of the plastic ridge, as shown here

IMG_2061.thumb.jpeg.2ba90704d74bf4f35d4d181f8f712a6d.jpeg

so that the edge of this capacitor

IMG_2060.thumb.jpeg.e920bb5a94a4ac2448515280325f4342.jpeg

could clear the plastic ridge while installing the new PCB.

Until I did this, I couldn’t get it put back together.

I only mention this incase it is helpful to other people.
