Anyone have a step by step process on how to install this?

I remember seeing it here somewhere a her but cannot locate it.

IIRC correctly @Fred_M made one, but after a quick search I can't find it

Swapped the boards today.  All good so far!  New slot is definitely tighter.  Requires noticeably more force to remove cartridges.

While it was open, I also did the multi-color LED mod from this thread: https://forums.atariage.com/topic/371567-let-there-be-more-atari-in-the-logo/

@Ben from Plaion I checked the dumper firmware and it did indeed need updating. Below is firmware version prior to updating.

Thanks again!

I tackled installing the new cart board tonight, which was an experience!  It took a bit of flexing, but in the end, it's all back together.

I hooked it up, placed in a cart, switched it on...  Yay!  Atari logo!  The Firmware is still the latest.  Loading game....

Blank screen.

Ah, I need to flash the dumper!

Flashed the dumper successfully.  I also flashed the Firmware to be certain.

Hooked it up...  turned it on...  Atari logo...  Loading...

Blank screen.

I tried my Adventure and Asteroids carts, which I know are good because I played them recently.  Sadly, it doesn't seem to be working in mine.

EDIT:  I put my original cartridge slot board back in and everything works fine.

Actually I'm pretty sure 02.00.00.00 is same as 00.00.00.03.

02.00.00.00 is is the 'official' version of experimental x.03 dumper.

I can't get the board out. I followed the instructions and I ended up taking out 4 screws, not two.

The instructions say nothing about how to get this part out next.

Help :)

You're going to have to carefully deform the back of the casing where the ports come through to pop them free, and there's a capacitor near the cart slot pressing against the cartridge port shroud that limits movement.

I did and wow it took some uncomfortable force.

But my new board looks backwards?

That is how the newer board is setup. It will work, but it will also required you to put a twist in the ribbon cables so they will be seated properly on the original controller ports.

I took out the 4 screws below it now and I still can't get it out. The instructions just glaze over this part as if it was nothing.

Just to be clear for other people, this was stated below the part that you have to use some pressure to get the board out:

"If you do not want to put some pressure at the plastic back, you can also remove all screws that are attached to the black plastic (some of them can be reached by using the holes in the PCBs). The complete front panel (where the cartridge slot and the switches are) will come loose and makes removing the Main Board and I/O board much easier."

with "all screws that are attached to the back plastic" I mean that you have remove ALL screws, not just the ones that are attached to the PCB. Remove all screws that are attached to the back plastic. After doing that, the black front panel will come loose.

Your IO board is different to the one I have, so my instructions are not complete right for your model. And just to be clear, I am just an Atari-fan, these are NOT "official" instructions.

So my frustration continues. My new cables won't lock in to those switch boards.

I tried both sides, I locked it it and it easily slides out.

That small black strip you see at the right of the white connector must be pullled out or up just a millimeter (DON'T TEAR IT OFF!), insert the flat cable and push the small black strip back to lock the flat cable.

I did, and it won't lock into place. I never tore off the black lever thing.

What about the blue piece. Is that important or can I just toss it?

I have not received my new board yet, so sadly I cannot check it. But by gently pushing the black part back to its original position it should lock. The blue piece is reinforcement of the cable. It is possible that without the blue piece the cable is to thin to lock it (and can easily be damaged). You can try to carefuly put some scotch tape (or something similar) on the cable where the blue piece was and try to lock it in the connector.

Yeah the old ribbons lock no problem. The news ones don't. And because the new board, the short ribbons won't work to reach.

Ive done this stuff back in the day and even with the blue piece it won't lock.  It has to be the new ribbon being too thick or thin.

Ah, okay..... Maybe you find some thicker ribbon cables online? You can also try the scotch tape. Try to make the ribbon cable a bit ticker.
