o rimuovere TUTTE le viti nella plastica nera per rimuovere il pannello frontale. Non so quante volte devo dirlo...😦  Non era mia intenzione che le persone avrebbero murato la loro console.

Good morning everyone. I changed the board following Fred's instructions, whom I thank very much, which was to remove all the screws.

Overall, the operation was simple and I never had to apply force to put the cards back in place.

Everything works wonderfully.

Thanks againIMG20241006155115.thumb.jpg.90f7cf84f8481af76bfee50fbd4f2fa3.jpg

Just a reminder it's been confirmed that these boards come with revision 2.0 which is a renaming of the latest experimental dumper software so there is not a need for you to flash this new board unless Raz0red updates the dumper in the future.

My 2600+ is one that requires the longer cables and the ribbon twists and I also hit the interior cart slot with the Dremel just a bit for that capacitor clearance.  Once everything was back in the cart slot wasn't quite aligned properly and had to be manually pulled downwards a bit.

Everything's good now though and this slot is definitely better - thanks Ben 🙂

Upgrade installed and everything appears functional.  Very cool that you offered these to the community and thank you.

I also had to file down around the slot as shown in previously posted photos so the cap would fit.  My ribbon cabled needed to twist and mine feed between the cart and switch boards so I guess thats ok?  I had to remove the switches so I could attach the new ribbon cable.

There might be a way to do it with the switches and stuff out but I had to fasten everything down and wedge/flex the new board in there as well.  Once back together I noticed the new slot did not line up correctly. Took apart again and realized the cart slot itself was not angled correctly. May have been the pop I heard when trying to get it back together. I was able to move it back into alignment and it seems to be working as expected but not sure if I damaged it?

I have no idea how this thing is still working after my wrestling match with it and my knack for doing things the hard way. The guide and photos previously posted were very helpful. Make sure your well rested and understand how to release the ribbons cables before trying.

I'm also missing screws afterwards and would like to find some replacements. What size are the little ones? Maybe amazon has mixed screw pack for this sort of thing.

Thanks for taking on the challenge and reporting back. I look forward to your actual cart testing, how are those thin as hell Activision carts, how's that Rampage cart with a thicc PCB without a bevelled edge?

I'll send you a bag of replacement screws no worries, just DM me.

Yeah... I didn't realize that until you just confirmed it. I flashed my entire setup back to the 1.1r6 and .03 dumper that I last had. Still seems to be working of course but I will need to update it once the official 2.0 release or 1.7 etc...is brought forth.

So far the only activision cart I've had trouble with was keystone kapers. Took a few tries for it to load and then when I hit the reset switch the game had to load again. I'm going to use the 1up cleaner on it and see how it goes. Its a recent ebay purchase so I wasnt able to test with the old board.

I have a small stack of carts from when I was a kid but only recently started expanding my collection with the release of the 2600 +

Demon attack is very snug but working well for me on the new board. Had trouble loading the game before.

Having a blast playing carts on a Atari with hdmi. thanks again and will let you know if I have anymore troubles.

Still waiting. I guess mine got derailed to snail mail! Lol.

Me too 😟 Last time Ben sent me something I received an email from our local postal services to pay the VAT (import outside of the EU) within a few days, but sadly no parcel or email yet. Fingers crossed 🤞

Hi all,

In a recent manufacturing run of the 2600+ I asked for some extra IO PCBs with the updated cartridge socket to be sent to me.

I have 40 of these PCBs to be given away free of charge. To get one all you need do is post a picture of your 2600+ and the first 40 posts I will send a PCB to.

Thanks Ben

Am I missing something? Was there a problem with the original cartridge socket?

I’m brand new to Atari collecting—I literally just bought my 2600+ on Amazon a few days ago (my very first Atari system...as long as you don't include the Jakks Pacific plug n play from the early 00s 😆). Playing through the Atari 50 collection on my Switch convinced me to finally take the leap!

I have to admit that I was a little bummed when I stumbled on this thread discussing the newly revised cartridge slot on the 2600+ revision. I checked the bottom of my 2600+ and the box itself, and I’m pretty sure I got version 1.

What stinks is that I’m well within my 30 day return window with Amazon so I could always return the console. But the problem is, there’s no way of ensuring I get a revision 2 console from Amazon or anywhere else even if I did try to exchange it. I’m assuming that even the official Atari.com store will still be selling through its version 1 stock before it starts selling revision 2?

I’m going to reach out to Atari.com to see if they know anything about the new revision in their store…not holding my breath tho 😅

@Ben from Plaion I'm just going to throw my voice into the ring here and say that it would be lovely if you could get the replacement slot/board available to purchase here at AtariAge 🙂

It was an off-the-shelf connector, rather than one that was made specifically to interface with game carts, so it wasn't as reliable as it could be for some users.

Yep, some carts have unreliable connection with the old socket. Unfortunately I missed the giveaway. Those two newest Activision carts in my collection are driving me crazy, but they are not the only ones…

You're absolutely right.

I liked the Atari 2600+ when I received it, only a few carts wouldn't work on stock firmware.

I then upgraded to the latest experimental firmware and that made it worse - the ones not working before still don't work and several carts that did play fine before now refuse to load or need several attempts to even recognize that there is a cart plugged in at all.

I completely lost interested by now and the unit is collecting dust which is a real shame.

Sfortunatamente mi sono perso il giveaway. Quelle due cartucce Activision più recenti nella mia collezione mi stanno facendo impazzire, ma non sono le uniche...

I hope, for all those who were unable to get one, that the new cards will soon be available for purchase.

Whilst the new socket is an improvement, I still have little to no issues with the original socket.

I am getting some more made and will be doing another giveaway and then sending the rest to Albert from him to list on the Atari Age store from there on out.

That doesnt sound right at all. The latest firmware vastly improves performance and cartridge compatibility of the machine.

Here is the latest firmware pack https://atari.com/blogs/newsroom/updating-atari-2600-firmware

Remember that both the main firmware and dumper chip need to be updated.

If you try the update again and it still isnt working right please DM me and I'll have a look at it.

Thanks Ben

Thank you!

Maybe I gave up too soon out of frustration.

Will try again and then report back - I now have more games to test the unit with. Will take some time though...

Ben, is this the same pack as the latest experimental firmware available here?

According to another post in a different thread, apparently the Atari pack upgrade is equivalent to the latest experimental update.
