This question was on my mind too, but I would guess that the new boards which will match 7800+ features will not have been manufactured yet. Is that correct @Ben from Plaion? Anyway, if they do manage to update the 2600+ firmware to add the features then we won't need to swap out our revised socket boards... although the fact that they are going to the expense of updating the board makes me think it's a safety net in case they cannot.
