Shift838
I know some of us have purchased a board set to build a 99/22 (TI-99/4A clone). My boards are on my way to me. I think it would be cheaper if we did a group buy of components if possible to be able to get the discounts. It may save us a few bucks. I will be stewarding that and if anyone is interested please PM me. 5

+dhe
Hey @Shift838 when are you looking to send out invoices?
Gary from OPA
1 hour ago, dhe said: Hey @Shift838 when are you looking to send out invoices? I second that. As our lot of 99/22 boards should be shipping out this weekend, so with luck I will have mine to start building by, well at the rate USPS handles Canada at best the 22nd at worse the 27th. So it would be good to get this side of the building project going as well.
Shift838
i'm finalizing the BOM currently. The BOM that was provided with the 99/22 download, well let's just say it lacked a lot of areas that was needed to put together an adequate parts list. I have one part that I am working to get a good value on from the developer right now. I'll be closing the pre-order registration probably by the end of this weekend. I know all 99/22 that was ordered have been claimed, so that should give everyone adequate time to register if they want to participate in the group buy. Once the registration is closed, I will send everyone that registered an individual email to confirm they still want to participate in the group buy and to make sure I have an accurate count of component kits. This is where if anyone ordered another board and needs an additional kit then they can let me know then. So please watch your emails and answer promptly. I will only give a few days for replies before I start compiling a price list, if do not receive a reply then that person will be nixed from the list. I will have to chase down suppliers for certain chips like the CPU. my plan is having the final price within a week (hopefully) of registration close. I will send everyone that is participating an invoice for the component kit. This invoice will cover the component price only and not shipping. Shipping will be determined after the components arrive and I get them all packaged for their new home. I will then send each person a separate shipping invoice. 1

Thank You. 4

I know the feeling, the other week I put together a nice little list of all the parts I need to redo two pgram cards. And it took a while. Then I was happy they shipped it out right away before the long weekend, but then I was sad when the box arrived, and the resistors I needed had a note Jan 5th, 2025 will be shipped separately, what the hell, a place like Mouser out of resistors, and why so long, I complained and they told me production delays. Oh'well. Edited September 4 by Gary from OPA 2

Shift838
since this machine will need a decent power supply, I will be including an open frame power supply in the components. Also, this component purchase will not include the keyboard components, just the mainboard and unicorn board. I am currently working on a new design for a USB keyboard adapter that will mount directly to this 99_22 board and will be getting the prototype in next week or so, but of course I won't be able to test it until I get my 99_22 built. I like your plan -- looking forward to see your new USB keyboard adapter. -- Would this still allow a TI99 original keyboard, or the 99/22 keyboard design to work as well at the same time? Second, in regard to your previous messages, tracking down certain chips, would it be possible to source the -40 (4 Mhz) versions of the 9900 and 9901, as I plan on upgrading mine 99/22 to software switchable from 3Mhz to 4Mhz speed soon after I build it and confirmed its working.

I have been able to work on the code to get it to compile with the newer microcontrollers since the original 3.1/3.2 versions are very hard to come by. The 99/22 keyboard follows the original 99/4a but does add 3 extra pins, for power, ground and reset. This adapter is not going to allow for hooking up the keyboard that has been designed for the 99/22 but just the option for a USB keyboard only. I can be used on the 99/4A, but just relegalize that you cannot connect the original 99/4A keyboard at the same time as the original one that Matt came up with and the alternate design that I did does allow for that. As far as the 4mhz versions of the chips, it all depends on availability from suppliers. Do you have a link of your planned 4mhz modification?

I going to do this mod as listed on the TITech pages under the "Using Oscillators" section, you can software switch between the two speeds using one of the unused 9901 pins. http://www.unige.ch/medecine/nouspikel/ti99/clockup.htm 3

I'd love a ti keyboard with clickety mechanical switches. Can you tell me what part numbers I would need in order to build the keyboard? I was looking at these two items myself. Please note, Canadian Amazon, but alot of times if you change the link to .com you will get the USA version. First off you need a package of 48 key switches: but sadly most packages are only 45 keys, so you are short 3 keys, or you buy two packs of 45 and have lots of extras. https://www.amazon.ca/Akko-Keyboard-Dustproof-Mechanical-Switches/dp/B0C3H7PR1Z/ Next you need a set of key caps they normally come with all 140 for full size keyboard with number pad and cursor pad: https://www.amazon.ca/Keyboard-Transparent-Material-Switches-Mechanical/dp/B0D8T9ZHGL/ The black jade look good as we not doing RGB. Lastly you need a frame stabilizer, the 99/22 GitHub lists 3 Amazon links for that, but only one still works: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MMB33WG But would be good to get an expert opinion on what you need for the keyboard build part as well. 2

Shift838
I am still waiting on a couple of individuals to confirm they still want to be on the group component buy. I have sent out a final reminder. I will be sending out RFQs starting tomorrow morning. If I have not heard from them by then they will be removed from the list. 1
Shift838
I have received my quotes backs for the rare and hard to find chips. Looks like I will be ordering all the parts from 4 different places. Watch your emails as I am hoping to send out invoices by Wednesday for the parts. Remember this will just for the cost of the parts and the price to get the parts to me. The invoice will not include shipping cost to you, that will be billed once I have your items packaged up. 2
