Is it just a stock homebrew 99/4a or is it enhanced some how? currently, the only major enhanced part is the onboard 32k 16bit ram. the feature is a way to boot custom console groms with ext. basic cartridge via its unicorn board. and an replacement new keyboard. it also has alot more space around the chips themselves, giving room to design mods and addons, its a good project if you want to have a system to expand on and work with new hardware.
Shift838
All, I am getting ready to send invoices out for the parts. All invoices will be sent based on the options each person selected. These options cannot be changed. IC Sockets 99/22 Console components 99/22 Keyboard components (not included is the keycaps) The components for the keyboard kit are as follows: Original REAL Cherry MX keyboard switches Keyboard switch Snap-On supports Frame (does require modification) - don't ask me what to do to it, get with the developer! Note: I have a few different blank keycaps on order for some testing. I want to laser engrave/etch key symbols on them to see how they turn out. If it works well, I will offer that for purchase in a separate thread. Unicorn board components Power supply kit (75w triple output power supply, AC power inlet, power switch). USB Keyboard Adapter Specialized IC's (TMS9900,9901, etc.) Disclaimer: These prices are only for the components and shipping charges to get them to me. Shipping, packaging and handling charges will be a separate invoice that will need to be paid prior to shipping your items out to you. These prices are also quoted based on everyone that has opted to participate and verified in a separate email they wanted to move forward with purchasing of the components required for this project. If I missed a component on the list and find out then I will bill you for that missed component, but I will cover the shipping charges to get it to me as that was my mistake. These invoices must be paid by 9/21/2024 by 9:00 p.m. CST. I order to keep the prices I must put in my order no later than 9/22/2024 at 9:00 a.m. CST to get the quoted prices that were provided for my submitted RFQs. Also, if someone does not pay by the required time then the prices quoted are no longer any good and everyone will receive a refund, and you will have to source your parts yourself. I will not resubmit a new RFQ based on new requirements as that will change the price since the quantity will be less. Shift838
So, I have compiled the prices and this thing is not going to be cheap to build especially with some of the rare ICs like the TMS9900, 9901, etc.. I'm going to let a few people respond to me to find out if it is going to be even wanted now based on these prices. The below prices are without the USB keyboard adapter. Kit with Dual Wipe Sockets : $455 USD Kit with Machined sockets : $490 USD Like I said it's going to be pricey to build. And of course, if you want the USB Keyboard Adapter kit it's about another $60 on top of that. I may be able to get the sockets a bit cheaper as the sockets are from a US source and you can see the price difference between Dual Wipe and machined above. I know I can get them cheaper via China, but of course that will put probably 2-3 week delivery time extra on those. The CPU and other hard to find ICs are pricey to get, most of those I am getting from China, but through a reputable source as the ones I have tested from ebay sellers from China have come back as fake, where these from this vendor have tested good as I got one sent to me already. If anyone wants to walk away there will not be any hard feelings as many of the people that register for this buy have registered for multiple kits and it is not going to be cheap. I myself was pretty shocked when I saw the end price so that is why I want to put this out there and allow some response. Remember if one person says no, then the prices I have worked up especially around the rare ICs is null as if I order less the price goes up, so the kit price would go up from what is shown above. 1

Whoa. Yeah, that's way more than what I was budgeting. I do have several "parts" TIs that I could scavenge for chips, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Can I ask what it would be without any of the 9900 series figured in?
GDMike
Pricey indeed. That's the cost of a computer. Ding, oh yeah.... Just about the price I paid for my virtual headset last year I think they've come down though. Yeah they're 379 at Walmart now.. I wanted two kits, but If push comes to shove and it breaks a situation I'll go ahead and order parts for two, otherwise, I'll change to one. Shift838
I have already received multiple emails for people backing out, which is fine. But as I stated before those prices were based on the number of kits people already committed to. Therefore, I will not be moving forward to purchase components for anyone for this project. Everyone will need to source their own components. One recommendation I want to give is that if you are going to purchase the hard-to-find chips from places like eBay and they are in China be very leery as many of those are fake. If the price is cheap, you can guarantee it's not going to be the real thing.
nuxi
Well, thanks for trying. You did say earlier that the BOM on GitHub wasn't complete, could you email us your revised one, and anything else from your research that would be handy (mouser parts #s, e.g.)?

Yes, you can leave a BOM at Mouser, as a registered user, as well as Digikey. I've done it before.
Stuart
I've got some TMS9900s and TIM9904s from a known good source (ex-TI engineer!) here in the UK if anyone is interested. Quantities and price each as follows - will be flexible on price if you can show that known good devices are available elsewhere for significantly less. ALL PRICES ARE IN £UK. TMS9900 (White Ceramic) - quantity available 7 - price each £45. TMS9900 (Plastic) - quantity available 9 - price each £20. TIM9904 (Plastic) - quantity available 4 - price each £10. Tracked postage for one 9900 and one 9904 from the UK to the US (where most of you probably are) looks to be around £22. If a couple of you wanted to club together to save on international postage, I can post to one of you then that person repackages and distributes the items using internal US post. If anyone wants to buy the lot and resell locally, we can talk about a small discount. Send me a PM if interested.
Shift838
I have created a couple of shared projects on mouser.com for the 99/22 mainboard and keyboard. Please note that these projects are for the common parts and not things like the card edge connectors, cpu, etc.. Please check the BOM of the project on github. 99/22 main board shared project: https://www.mouser.com/ProjectManager/ProjectDetail.aspx?AccessID=0dca277d49 99/22 Keyboard shared project: https://www.mouser.com/ProjectManager/ProjectDetail.aspx?AccessID=e9d001405d You will also need other parts for the keyboard and unicorn board that is not in either of these shared project links. 2
RickyDean
Bear in mind that you may get a better buy on the machine sockets at Jameco. You have to decide. The trade off is that you receive free shipping if you order over a certain amount with Mouser, about 60.00 I believe, you don't with Jameco. Gotcha, I was just stating what I found on google when I asked if Mouser offered free shipping. I've never ordered more than 50.00 at a time, so I don't know. But if you type in "Does mouser electronics offer free shipping to usa" the AI states "Yes, Mouser Electronics offers free shipping to the United States on orders over $60 USD. Mouser also offers 2-day shipping for UPS and FedEx orders up to 10 pounds for a fee as low as $9.99." I did just go back and look at my invoices and there was 4 times I went over 60 to 100.00 and I did pay shipping too, since I register for an account. So the AI is wrong. So check this out: https://www.mouser.ca/new-customers/ When it pops up and asks for location, selecting Canada shows Which is conspicuously missing if you choose United States. In fact, this Google query "free shipping" site:mouser.com shows free shipping for various amounts in every country but the US! I created a cart with $161.90 of items, and shipping was not showing as free. Bummer... the AI fails us, again.

Shipping is always free for us Canucks but only if over $100 Canadian, but then we also have to pay our local 13% sales tax on orders. Ugh. They have an amazing assortment AND IT STARTS WITH A PICTURE GUIDE. So you can learn what all those thing-ys are called, as you go. Prices are excellent. For example, their 16-pin gold machine pin socket is US$ 0.38. Dunno how brand compares--DigiKey's offering is $0.86 in qty 10. OMG they have the V9938 machine pin socket! (the dual wipe sockets easily fall apart.) Another surprise to me: Just US$0.10 for most stamped socket types from 16 and 32 pins! 40 pin is $0.19.
+dhe
A big shout out to @Gary from OPA and @Shift838 for their help in building BOM's and helping me sort through a million questions - just for the BOM. There are A TON of parts to buy for this, as you can see from Gary's Santa Clause size bag, and that isn't even all of it.
