Defender - Level counter glitch?

I've been playing Defender a bit the last couple of days and noticed it sometimes "warps" levels after one is completed. For instance, I'd complete Level 4 but then after I beat the next one I'd find I was skipped ahead to, like, Level 15. There were some other times where I was jumped backward, as well. After the warps, the levels proceed sequentially as usual unless/until another warp happens. 

 

I'm playing on an Intellivision II and I suspect that might be the reason, since some games have minor glitches on it, but I wasn't able to turn up any documentation or mention of this.

 

Is this a known bug of Defender?

Haven't played a whole lot of Intellivision Defender but have gotten fairly far in the game. I played on a 2609, while I didn't notice the bug, now I'm wondering if I just played through the bug. Is it obvious in game play if you're not paying attention to the wave number on the screen?

 

Other than the cartridges that are blocked from starting, the only one I know of that has a bug running on an Intellivision II is Super Pro Football. Some cartridges have sound effects affected but that's due to the different sound chip in the Intellivision II.

Maybe a sudden spike (or decrease) in difficulty, but otherwise I don't think there's any way to tell until you finish a wave.

You might also be interested to know there is a cheat code for infinite lives and smart bombs.  I posted it on GameFAQs.
