The pickin preacher
Hey guys I recently literally unearthed a Jaguar from the abyss lol. I got it cleaned up and had my friend replace the cart reader but it is still showing the red screen. Does anyone have any idea why this may be ? SainT
Do you have any photos of the replaced cart socket? I’ve seen some ‘replacements’ which aren’t… err… perfect. There may be some damaged traces or dead chips.
doctor_shred
I'll be interested in the solution to this as I've had the same problem. I bought a Jag off ebay that worked briefly and the permanently red screened. The original cart slot looked a bit iffy so I got someone to install a new one but it didn't solve the problem. In my case, the motherboard looks mint with no other visual clues 🤔
SainT
First step would be verifying all the connections from the cart slot to the chips. There may be a bad trace somewhere, or even a dry solder joint on a chip. Also, try some 16-bit carts (homebrew or JagGD menu) as these carts use less of the data bus, and in the case of the JagGD, less of the address bus also. That can help narrow down where the issue is.
Zerosquare
Yup. It's very easy to accidentally damage a trace when replacing the cartridge connector.
