Zonie
Forgive me if this was covered, didn't find it in a search. Just a curiosity of this old Semiconductor Engineer. What format are the ROM's programmed in the new carts? Flash memory? EPROM? I presume they are not Mask ROMs as in the old days, but with cheap overseas Fabs, definitely still possible. I'd have to ask about your second question, I dont know whether its relevant but on upgrading the 2600+ a message comes up FOUND MASKROM DEVICE. I'm guessing that comes up with old carts which are all mask roms. They were initially fabbed in a small fab in midcoast California. Can't remember which. Probably 5micron tech or older on 3 inch or smaller wafers, all on manual load batch machines, using mask aligners and evaporation tools. Yuck. Semiconductor in its infancy. The maskrom message tells you that the uploader will boot from the internal mask rom in the 2600+ CPU. Even if you manage to brick the 2600+ it can always boot from its internal mask rom. This message is not releated to the game carts.
