What should I expect to pay for a cib console that is in pretty good shape?

“Come on, come on, come on. How much?”

“How much you got?

“No, no, I'm asking how much the complete-in-box Atari Jaguar 64-Bit Interactive Multimedia System is.”

“*threateningly* And I'm asking you how much you got.”

“You're out of your mind. Look, I don't have time to play around, OK? So how much is it?”

“[picks up a heavy wrench] All of it, boy.”

What does your sheriff think of your business practices?

According to PriceCharting, there are about 2 sold per month, just north of $500.

Holy s**t!

I don't mention it that often, but I had almost every Atari Jaguar game and all the CD games. The only ones I didn't have was GORF, and my Battlesphere Gold was a replica (which I made very clear when I sold it). And in selling all my CD stuff, and about 3/5ths of my Jaguar cartridges, I basically cleared about $23 thousand dollars.

For the record, I kept a bunch of the ones I played a lot... like I didn't sell Defender 2000, Protector, Tempest, Doom, Wolf 3D, Another World, and about 30 other games... all of which would probably have been worth just as much as what I ended up selling. All of that was sold in the span of 1 month in early 2021.

I assumed that Jaguar stuff had "cooled," but it seems that not only is that NOT the case, but it's actually gotten much, much, worse (expensive)!!!

Man... I'm part of the problem I suppose (although I did sell my stuff and make it available to others), but I feel bad for people who'd like to get into this hobby, and clearly cannot... at least not legally.

Mine was 400$ at a local game store and I knocked it down to 280 cash and 120 in trade credit. Generally physical stores have better prices than eBay and if you have any gaming accoutrements you feel like shedding you can make yourself a better deal than what you’ll get online.

...boy, that was a mistake. I sold my entire collection to make seeing.her possible.

<sarcasm>Obviously Jaguar collecting should trump finding true love, but...</sarcasm> You've tickled my curiosity. Can you indulge us and explain how the Jaguar collection was preventing you two from being together?

That's quite a collection!

May I ask, what was it that made you decide to sell it

It was a lot of money and quick.

This was before the retro gaming scene exploded into what it is now.

That's a useful lesson for everyone -- When forced to choose between a relationship and material possessions consider which will last longer.

In early 2000s, after discovering the Jag sales figures, I asked only friend I knew who had one if he still had it and would sell. He said he threw all of it in a burn barrel in attempt to change his life for a woman ... a woman who had already dumped his sorry buttocks months earlier. I'm unsure how destroying a bunch of fun, valuable stuff while breathing their formerly encased toxins was supposed to wow the ladies, but my density may be a factor in my first marriage lasting 32 years so far, and his lasting less than six months.

I reckon the ancient aphorism holds true: You can huck a Jag in a burn barrel, but you can't burn the Jag from your soul.

Whenever I see one, my heart melts but it also hurts. Just knowing that I may never have a collection like that again, hits hard.

It would cost way more now but it is doable.

Thanks for the encouragement!

I started to build up a PSP collection. I got quite a few games for it.

My Collection.

...it just doesn't compete with the Jaguar. Not at all.

I don't know how much my collection is worth but i will definitely sell/trade for a good Jaguar setup.

I lost my entire game collection 11 yrs. ago in a fire. Built it back up to this. It would cost way more now but it is doable.

You should post that pic on every YouTube vid that features some Chuzzlewit stating the Jag has a small library.

I don't want to be discouraging... to Guitarmas... but that collection above is probably a cool $35,000, for just the Jag stuff.

The two Dizzy games, for example... I sold those for almost $500 a piece. I bought all the CyranoJ conversions... every single one. I did that because at one point, I had the complete collection and wanted it. I realized I didn't play these, and so I sold them... but the cost for these things are insane. I know it's not my problem, but this is my ENFJ-A personality talking... I hate to see someone throw a ton of money at something like this.

Like... I want a 1967-1969 Porsche 911. Back in the early 2000s... you could buy them for just a couple of thousand. Now a rotted-out husk that's been completely stripped goes for $50k. A running one is like $80k. I realize my time with that opportunity has come and gone. I'm just gonna say... if you're not making like at least $200k annually and single, you don't want to start a Jaguar collection.

Just wait until all the Gen-Xers start dying off, and you'll be able to pick up these collections for cheap...

The good news is millennials and gen Z are into "retro gaming" now, so I think the cartridge era will remain valuable for awhile. It is amazing how Jag games and systems went from "you can't give them away" to "good luck finding anything at a remotely reasonable price".
