Retrospect
GRID-E , GRID-F , GRID-G .... EA5 files GRID-X .... Extended Basic file. Game requires expansion Ram to run and joystick 1. I've officially 'retired' from the scene after a bad burnout .... but I recently decided to try and make a fun little game for myself to play in my spare time, and I've decided to share it here. Grid Wars sees the player protecting a grid in outer space from nasty meanie things that want to over-take it for some unknown reason. The main enemies come down the grid left to right but they react to everything on the screen, and if they hit anything they'll go the opposite way... if you shoot at one of them it'll turn into a Tombstone and they react to that too. You've also got the god-awful XY Zappers again and these are particularly nasty in this game. The one at the side fires a bomb that forms a "pod" that can only be destroyed by the bottom zapper's laser. From that , at the left side of it, forms a downward arrow that heads down the screen. Touching either will kill you. Wave 2 onwards sees a cheeky little chap at the top of the grid, lobbing bombs at the player and running away. he can't be killed either. Hope you have fun with this. 19
badolepuddytat
Loved the old grid runner type games from Mr Minter. Will this run on a finalgrom 99? Congratulations, this looks great!

Congratulations, this looks great! Not sure as yet but I'll find a way to do that .... I did attempt to use the facility to make a bin but it got an error most likely due to something i've done wrong but i can have another bash at it. And yes , the Yak was my inspiration for this one. I've been enjoying playing his Matrix game on my Vic 20 maxi / C64 maxi computer. It's been compiled from XB using senior falcon's compiler. 2

Cheung
Sweet. Does this mean you've come out of TI game retirement?

Not as such , no ... but I still do have a little tinker around now and then ... and why not share the end result if it's playable enough.

Glad you're enjoying it. You know, this is what makes me wanna keep going. The fact that something I cobbled together in my kitchen across a few hour-long sessions ends up being played at someone else's house on a real system, miles away It's brilliant. 6

palmheads
Seriously cool version of Matrix/GridRunner 2/AMC (in the USA) Always had an idea of coding this game for the Mini Memory using all of its features (POKEV, PEEKV, Assembly in 4k etc etc). This is compiled XB huh? Its pretty slick! Edited September 15 by palmheads
InfernalKeith
Do you have a master list of all your games somewhere, or one particular thread or page where they can all be downloaded from? (EDIT: are all of them besides this one on the Gameshelf?) Edited September 15 by InfernalKeith

Retrospect
GRIDR38.BIN < Last revision, I promise! Game is now somewhat closer to Matrix on the Vic - 20 You'll see from the video the changes that I've made. Zone 2 onwards has the "mad bomber" guy running around at the top of the grid as always. Anyone wanting to put this game on their websites for downloads etc, feel free. I consider it freeware so do as you like but the main thing is enjoy it. Also anyone wanting to make a proper port of GridRunner / Matrix for our TI-99, go for it and make it because I can't do pixel-for-pixel ports very well. js99er-20240919151118.webm 2
