slbailey
So I've been collecting 2600 for a while but am just getting started with 7800 (and even moreso with the homebrew market). I've been spending the last few days pouring over YouTube videos showing some amazing titles that are available on the 7800 homebrew market. As I go from website to website looking for them I found out I'm late to the party. Most were available at one time but are not any longer. Am I SOL or do these things come back around from time to time and I just need to hang out in the community and wait? Looking forward to getting to know everyone and the market as a whole because if greatness was created once, it can happen again.
Jinks
Welcome. Stick around. I have seen rare games with limited production be produced again and then become rare again in waves. Forget ebay paying big dollars for anything. That is for impatient people. Eventually nostalgia will wane and heck in 30 years the kids stuck with these will offer them up for grabs for pennies or throw them in the trash or a flea market. I have seen garage sales already with homebrews. The deal today is to buy the atari website games which are 1/3 the price of what they were asking. Bentley etc is a deal. Buy the entire lineup there would be my step one starting over. Also keep checking back on atariage for anything new and buy everything that is for sale for the 7800. Have fun.
+slx
Trouble is in 30 years I have a 50/50 chance to have died of natural causes I console myself with the thought, that even if I quit working and divorced, the time likely remaining won‘t be enough to play all interesting games. I'm hesitant to buy ANYTHING from atari.com -- I'm still waiting for my copy of Save Mary and Dark Chambers.

I really wish Atari would give us an update on our carts, i am also waiting for Save Mary and the Box Set with Save Mary, Dark Chambers , Outlaw and Fatal Run. Hey Atari, can you please perhaps you can give us a heads up on what is going on?
Zonie
I mostly only buy 7800 games now. The developers are doing a fantastic job with that console. I do occasionally buy 2600 games, when I see something truly amazing or an update from the good ole days. For example, I was never a huge fan of Pac Man in any form, but @DEBROkilled it with 2600 Pacman 8K. It is totally amazing. Too bad I made the mistake of buying the 4K version. It's good, and it is what we should and could have possibly had back in 1982, but he outdid it with his 8K version. I actually enjoy that and can actually play it for a while. Others like Galagon, Star Castle Arcade, Amazing. The 7800's 2 year delay and early death was so unfortunate. I've been in this situation before, especially since I have a tendency to sell my games off when I'm strapped for cash or my collection tastes change....knowing I can just buy them back down the road...only to find out some are gone forever 😆 If you just want to play them, many/most of the "greats" are available as free ROMS so you just need any SD driven multicart that can handle them. If you get the gamedrive you can even run ricki and Vicki, etc..Some roms are not available though, and the physical carts are getting EXPENSIVE!! (Popeye comes to mind, glad I nabbed one in my last chance order!!) If you are like me though and prefer actually cartridges my best advice is to stop going after what ISN'T available and focus on what IS. What IS available now might not be later, I neglected purchasing a lot of AA homebrews because I thought they would always be there and I could get them later... I've definitely wasted time and money going after rarer out of print unavailable stuff when I should have just casually bought what was available at the time 😄

Lots of great games available. I think you'll start to see more publishers for some out of print titles. I also think you may see folks like Champs Games wade into 7800 games if I correctly interpreted some comments at their PRGE booth this past weekend. I hope so! Good question, I had to look up through old emails on 2 email accounts to find my orders.. Save Mary was in October 6th 2023 Fatal Run 2600 was ordered in November 28th 2023 Atari XP Boxed set with (Outlaw, Fatal Run, Save Mary, Dark Chambers) was ordered on December 14th 2023 We were alerted in May of 2024 that this is still delayed. Had I known that Save Mary and Fatal Run 2600 were going to be offered in a box set I would not have ordered them but I only found out once the single orders were done. No bigs I like those games and I can always open one and play it and keep the others for collecting. All paid for ahead of time. I am ok with Atari delaying these, I do not have an issue with Atari and it's speed of processing as long as they give an update every so often or post a status on the webpage or something. The only issue I have with preorders is that it gets tricky to keep track of what I ordered if it takes a year to fulfill it. I just wish Atari would just update us with a bit more frequency, I however do not have any hard feelings or demand anything from them as I know its a small organization and they are just doing what they can to keep it running. I used to run a small business so I totally understand. Having said that a quick heads up every now and then would be awesome and greatly appreciated! davyK
The best games I've played on 7800 are Asteroids, Joust, Centipede and Food Fight. I also got the Pacman Collection homebrew which is excellent. You really can't go wrong with those five games if you can get them. All not too difficult to get hold of either.
