Rick Reynolds
The Intellivisionaries are back with two... yes TWO game reviews! We dig deep into Death Race and GORF, two arcade ports for our beloved console. There is the normal shenanigans as well as news of the community and an interview with author Jamie Lendino. Available for your earholes via all the best podcast players. Show notes for the episode will be on intellivisionaries.com within the week.... Too busy at PRGE right now! If you don't use a podcast app, you can still play the file itself from the libsyn site: https://intellivisionaries.libsyn.com/the-intellivisionaries-episode-50-death-race-and-gorf
gar0u
Enjoyed listening to the podcast to and from PRGE on Saturday. Was sad to hear Paul's update. Hoping he gets a positive outcome soon. Been thinking about him since I heard the news. That was a great interview. Copy of the "Space Battle" book is on the way. Enjoyed the rabbit hole discussions of sequencers and audio stuff. Also found the Infocom stuff interesting. Was going to drop you a note about Jason Scott's "Get Lamp" documentary, but you mentioned it in the podcast. His "BBS" documentary is also fantastic. I also listen to the "Retro Computing Roundtable" podcast w/ Carrington Vanceton. He has a side podcast where he plays and talks about the Infocom games--"Eaten by a Grue". Haven't heard of "Death Race"--the video game violence discussion was interesting. "GORF" sounds like something I should check out--even if it is FROG spelled backwards--LOL! Glad I got to meet you and CMart on Saturday at PRGE. I picked up 4 "homebrews"; Ultimate Ghostbusters, Pacmanthology, Pixel Bros, and Mr. Chess. Came for Akalabeth, but there were some last minute issues with it, so I'll have to track it down from the AtariAge store. (Been playing the Digital Eclipse version of Wizardry on the PS4 and those old games are great.) Turns out I have bad cables on both my Flashback controllers. SEGA extension cords on the way so I can rewire them and get playing Intellivision again. Thanks for the podcast. Looking forward to the PRGE wrap episode...
+wavemotion
Got a chance to finally listen to the whole podcast. Excellent work, as usual! Really enjoyed the interview. Like everyone, I'm really hoping for the best for Paul. I had the podcast on in the background but got laser-focused every time Nintellivision got mentioned...

mthompson
Just finished listening to the episode. Thanks for keeping me company on my flight home from Portland and while refurbishing an Intellivision console. Really enjoyed the interview with Jamie Lendino and the game reviews. Papa Pete had a solid debut! Where is this photo of Rick and a Death Race arcade game of which you spoke? Sending well wishes Paul's way. Thanks for letting us know what you've been coping with. Stay positive as best you can. We miss ya.

Davidvision
When will this make it to the intellivisionaries.com website?
majors
The new "news" segment opening was a great re-recording with Rick and Chris. Whose idea was that? Sorry to hear of Paul's health issues, but I appreciate that he felt comfortable to update listeners on the details.
freewheel
Yikes, very sorry to hear about Paul's issues. Without getting into specifics, his story struck home due to a similar (although vastly different cause) situation in my family. The complications of basically any treatment for this sort of thing can be... frankly terrifying, and I have endless sympathy for what he's going through. Losing your voice is a pretty scary prospect. Even having to go without using it for a few days - when you have children, it's amazing just how challenging this can be. Doing it for a month (or months)? Imagine reversing a ton of progress/treatment only because you forgot that you can't even whisper. I can't offer much medical advice, and patience is very hard to come by in these situations. All you can do is wait and hope. I will say that if the time comes and it's appropriate, vocal therapy via speech pathologist can be a miracle. We've been very impressed with what can be done. Not sure if you read the forums much, but you're in our thoughts Paul. ❤️
Rick Reynolds
I should have the show notes page for this episode up on intellivisionaries.com sometime this week. Normally I do that update before releasing the ep, but I really wanted to get this out before PRGE so folks could hear it in that context. Things in Real Life (TM) have really had me jumping of late and I just haven't made it happen yet.

I was just told to show up and be sexy as usual.

From what I understand, very few people knew the Gorf was Frog spelled backwards. Glad I could bring it to everyone's attention. It was great meeting you, thanks for stopping by. Sorry that Rick's hands were covered in Cheezits when he shook your hand. We have already recorded part 1 of the next episode and Rick is editing it while I enjoy some sun in Palm Desert. Lol. When I get back we'll be recording more as well as new games reviews. Hopefully it won't be too long and we're back on more of a regular schedule now that we have another responsible Canadian joining us.
