There will be no Intellivision games, only games for 2600 (M-Networks) and other systems that are already available in the collection (like the 800).

HUGE miss. The DLC is called the First Console War, and as far as I know, no war is played by a single entity alone.

Note that it was just his opinion that there's not going to be any Intellivision content here.

While I'm thinking that he's going to be proved correct, it's not confirmed. And it would seem quite logical to toss in something like Night Stalker to compare and contrast with Dark Cavern when the DLC is about the Intellivision and 2600 console war and there's going to be interviews with some Intellivision people.

Well, I think the logic behind it is that Atari 50 only offers Atari games or at least games that were released on Atari systems, hence representing Intellivision games by the M Network games. I agree it's a shame not to offer the original INTV games as well especially since they know own them, but I understand their reasoning.

I think it is important to keep in mind that Atari 50 is from Atari's perspective.  A duh statement, I know.  But, I think that with Atari now owning Intellivision and the majority of its gaming catalog I would imagine that some Intellivision collection a la what the Intellivision Flashback console did with the games in its compilation is something that, I would think, is pretty likely at some point.

Intellivision 50, perhaps - or did they miss that date, in which case Gold Master 4?

No, Intellivision 50 would be in 2029/2030... 😅 They could release Intellivision 45 this year, but it doesn't have a nice ring to it.

Intellivision as a standalone brand doesn't really have a ton of value, though. Especially since Atari didn't get the rights to stuff like Astrosmash or Shark Shark. I think it only really has mainstream value in a group with the classic Atari consoles. Even when I was a kid there was a tendency for people to lump all pre-NES systems together as "Atari" and I'm in my mid 30s now. Kids these days don't know what the hell an Intellivision is and guys like us have already bought Intellivision Lives (possibly on multiple platforms) or the Intellivision Evercade carts. Some of us even still have our Intellivisions hooked up. But that is a small and ever-diminishing group of people.

The arcade library and the 2600 library will always be the main attraction. They are what people will always associate with the Atari name and branding and the pre-NES era of gaming, no matter what. They are what needs to be used to draw people in so they can be exposed to 5200, 7800, Lynx, Jaguar, 8-bit, ST, and Intellivision games.

True, Intellivision as a standalone brand doesn't have a lot of cache.  That being said, it does have some value and I believe a collection of its games a la Atari 50, albeit a scaled-downed version, would sell as the Intellivision Flashback console done by AtGames did well enough to warrant a 2nd version that was ultimately done in when Tommy Tallarico bought Intellivision and gifted all of us with one of greatest vaporware consoles of all time.

I am still holding out hope for a release of the two D&D games and In Search of the Golden Skull for M Network. Even though they are listed as unfinished, there is a mention that those games were played at the 1999 Classic Gaming Expo. So maybe they are playable, but don't have an ending? Either way, I would love to see those released as part of the M Network prototypes.

Well, the game list is out. About 40% of it is unrelated to M-Network but there are some nice surprises.

  • Air Raiders – 2600 M Network
  • Anteater – 2600 M Network (unreleased, based on Stern IP)
  • Armor Ambush – 2600 M Network
  • Astroblast – 2600 M Network
  • Frogs & Flies – 2600 M Network
  • International Soccer – 2600 M Network
  • Dark Cavern – 2600 M Network
  • Star Strike – 2600 M Network
  • Super Challenge Baseball – 2600 M Network
  • Super Challenge Football – 2600 M Network
  • Swordfight – 2600 M Network (rare, unreleased)
  • Sea Battle – 2600 M Network (rare, unreleased)
  • Tower of Mystery (unreleased prototype, recently rescued)

Personally I think this is solid enough line up.  Sure, it would be nice to see even more games, but I believe that these games along with the additional interviews will make the DLC price worth it.

Source?

I see it all over the internet now. I thought maybe they released a video or something.

Glad we will get Tower of Mystery, but was really hoping for Treasure of Tarmin & In Search of the Golden Skull!

No Space Attack either. Maybe they thought this was too difficult to adapt or it was just a poor game?

So, the only games that weren't available in Flashback Classics V.1-3 are Anteater, Tower of Mystery, Hardball, and Desert Falcon 7800? Really wish they'd added other random 7800/Lynx/Jaguar games.

Maybe future dlc will be more interesting...

Speaking of the Atari Vault I noticed that it has been delisted on Steam, I tried to buy it recently but couldn't, maybe they are planning on eventually rereleasing all of the remaining games that aren't on the Atari 50 as part of some other collection ?

I wasn't expecting Tower of Mystery and Anteater.

Same here. I wonder if that means Atari were the ones that bought the Tower of Mystery prototype that showed up a year ago or so.

As far as Anteater, does that mean Atari acquired the rights to the game? It was not listed as part of the Stern acquisition. At the time, I thought maybe the rights were murky since Stern did not publish the game. Did Atari hide the purchase, purchase it more recently, or simply license it? At this time, I do not think there is anything in Atari 50 that is not wholly owned by Atari.

I surmised previously that we might get more Atari published sports titles in this dlc, and I guess I was partially right. We are getting 2600 Basketball and XE Hardball.

Swordfight is on here, but it was not listed as part of the ip that Atari owned, I wonder why that is.

Space Attack's omission is strange. I could possibly see Atari releasing it later at the same time as 2600 Star Raiders, as similar games.

Xari Arena on the 8-bit is a weird one. Is it just the 5200 proto ported by Homesoft twenty years ago?

That game is on the Atari Super Pocket.  It's an interesting game.  The cart is available on the AA store as well.

As happened with the first DLC, still nothing on Steam. The Steam Store pages shows the Wider World of Atari, and the combo bundle, but no listing for The First Console War.

Gotta say, whomever is running their retail partner marketing, at least on the Steam side of things, is not doing a great job.
