Tetris Forever - Gameplay and title-line up

Whaaaat. …? nobody watches this gameplay trailer of 15 Tetris games…???

Are you trying to tell me… you know what the gameplay of Tetris is like???

It has a lot of views just not on YouTube, most people seem to view video game trailers on X now.

Not knowledgeable on "different versions of Tetris" but it seems a lot of these were Japanese exclusive? That or I've just never heard of them, but either way that makes this really desirable even if it's essentially multiple versions of one game (kind of, I know they each have their own unique traits).

Looks like various editions by Bullet Proof Software, that's Henk Rogers company in Japan back in the 1980s and 90s. I also see the original Soviet version on their PDP-11 clone, not sure if it's emulated or a recreation.

What's missing in the video is the first Soviet conversion to the IBM PC. Also missing are any of the first western countries versions by Mirrorsoft or Spectrum Holobyte.

Is there a "title lineup" somewhere?

I believe the gameplay of the versions with respective titles in the video, makes up the full title-line up. These Tetris-games are the ones to be included (I think. Thats my impression).

If it doesn't have every Tetris game mentioned by Video Game Dunkey ( where is Weltris? ) then no buy from me 😏

X meant (the drug) Ecstasy.   (Also called XTC)...

Man, how did you get to know all these things…?

Aspirin & Friends anno 1900 🙂(ok, - whatever it was about taking something for your cold) now, even X … you seem knowledgeable about these things.

They named a social media platform after a drug!?

By that standard what ought they really to have called Facebook…?

Spoiler

I gave your pun/joke above, a laugh - just good thing you explained it us others… we’re so slow you’d think we’d be taking dru…  not enough vitamins while wasting away in front of videogames and videogame-chat forums, not getting exercise nor fresh air.

If you come ‘off’ X, you’re a Quitter…?

This is cool.
One of the things I really enjoy about the more advanced Retro Compilations are inclusions of either completely new games or novel remakes of classics.

I suspect that won’t happen with Bubsy, - so I’ll be fine if they just put in game-fix modes -, but new games and new remakes is a gold-standard.

Oh no,  I'm not getting high on X just to watch a game trailer!     😆

You know with your Analogue and stuff, you should get some Atari Lynx games…

Came to think of this puzzler which I got from Songbird now recently:

I guess the third clip with the amber display is also the Spectrum Holobyte Apple II version. Atari SA might own these Spectrum Holobyte properties through the Ingfogrames acquisition of Hasbro Interactive.

The original Soviet IBM PC version that leaked out to Europe was written by a colleague of Patjinov. You can download the game and read about the developer's story and probably why its not included here.

I have actually bought some Lynx stuff from Songbird,  though I haven't played much,  yet.  But yeah that game looks Great!  Very Dr. Mario-ish but that's not a bad thing!

Tetris Battle Gaiden is an awesome multiplayer variation!!

The Digital Eclipse site has a summary page noting that it includes a full history like their other Gold Master Series releases... including 90 minutes of documentary footage. Cool! Hopefully it'll at least acknowledge the arcade version, atari/tengen drama, and gameboy version even if they couldn't get the rights for any of them...

Looking forward to this release, and Tetris Time Warp looks fun. Only criticism is the game selection seems quite limited, which makes sense given licensing, but I would love a modern Tetris version on the collection as well. I hope for an update they have even a basic modern Tetris and a version of Tetris Gems from the website. A jukebox mode would also be great, some of the Tetris music is pretty fun and I love VG music.

Beyond the fact that I'm more used to the modern version from Puyo Puyo Tetris, it would give an opportunity to talk about the game design for the modern mechanics that people may play now. I *think* the former BPS would still have the rights to The Next Tetris and Tetris Zone...

I'm looking forward to trying out the Time Warp feature, too.  I love Tetris and am pretty excited for the collection.

It's been mentioned a tiny bit, but if you guys like Tetris and haven't played on a modern console, I think the two Puyo Puyo Tetris games, Tetris Effect, and Tetris 99 (Switch-only) are pretty much best of breed.  You can play the arcade ones (Grand Master 1 and 2?  All of a sudden I forget) through Hamster's Arcade Archives series as well.

They could have included Spectrum Holobyte's sequel Super Tetris and Tetris Classic which has several multiplayer modes. Looks like the licensor might have influenced the selection.

Second that, I love Puyo Puyo Tetris, although I am awful at the Puyo Puyo parts, will add the browser version is basic but free if you are more of a PC person

Does Atari or Tetris Company own the rights to those via the former Hasbro Interactive? if so those would be a great addition
