Supporting the Lynx

Songbird

Recommended Posts

I just started a similar thread in alt.games.lynx and other Atari Usenet groups, but I'll ask here as well...

How much interest is there in continued support (read: new games) for the Lynx?

What kinds of things besides new games could fans do to help promote the Lynx and/or new games? For example, I'd love to see some more fan pages on the web with reviews of post-Atari releases, strategy guides, previews, etc.

And for the record, AtariAge has really come "out of nowhere" to be one of the premier sites for the Lynx and other Atari systems as well. Good work, guys!

What else could be done? A print or email newsletter? Tournaments at various classic gaming conventions? Another ALPE programming competition like I held in 2000? Level design contests for CM2, Sokomania, or other level-based games?

Note that I'm NOT volunteering to do all this! I'm trying to stimulate the discussion, see if any diehard fans out there want to accept the challenge to help generate more support for the Lynx.

Keeping the Atari flame burning,

I've been a diehard Lynx fan, and plan on supporting it as long as Lynx units are in existence. I'm actually in the process of building up my collection right now, as I only have about 20 games. Buying the Songbird releases has definitely been in my plans, but so far it's been an issue of $$$. I've also been looking into developing for the Lynx, but that too has been a question of $$$.

I'm doing what I can to support the Lynx, which has included writing many different reviews of games. I started up a thread a little while ago which invited everyone to post reviews on Lynx games, but so far there hasn't been much of a response to it.

I also have just started being a collector of the Lynx. I got my unit in 1989 with one game. It went into storage shortly after that when I went over seas for military duty. I just recently pulled my Lynx out of a storage unit and feel the system blows away any other handheld system out there including the all-powerful GBA!!! My system has grown to include around 30 games and 5 systems (I and II). I hope to eventually own everything available for the system… Including the new releases…

I love my Lynx systems compared to the newer systems on the market. There is a point where the system gets too small... I get a headache trying to see the unimpressive small screen on the GBA system. The Idea of needing a magnifier to make the image larger is funnier then needing a battery pack larger then the system to run a full game on the Lynx...

I am limited by time and money! I would love to see companies such as Songbird putting out new stuff for the Lynx! I have gotten my Grandson his own Lynx and he loves it over the GBA. (I'm not trying to pick on just the GBA) If only we could make items for the Lynx more available on the consumer market: something a new generation could easily get.

I work as a Research & Development Engineer and would love to see about the improvement of the Lynx system and it's accessories, but it takes Time and money... Neither do I have much of...

I'm always up for supporting new games from you Carl, for both the Lynx and Jaguar. Keep 'em coming. By the way, VERY shortly you'll be getting an order from me for Cybervirus and if I have enough, Champ Rally and/or Remenent too! It's been tuff for me to decide whether to get these or Protector SE from you first, but since Protector's release has been pushed back to the end of the month, it looks like I'm going with Lynx games this month. I'm really anticipating the release of that RPG for the Lynx...Forgotten Realms is it called? So hopefully my order that I'll e-mail you shortly will confirm my continued interest...
