Riko
I was looking into getting a 7800 and some games, though a buddy warned me that Impossible mission is actually.. impossible, from a bug? Was not sure if this was fully accurate or not though if anyone is knowledgeable about this would appreciate the insight! +Mitch
Yes, the NTSC version has a bug that make it impossible to win. The PAL version was fixed. There is also a ROM for a fixed copy of the NTSC version. You may be able to find someone to burn you a cart. +Propane13
Look for "Possible Mission". This store sells it: https://www.gooddealgames.com/inventory/Atari 7800.html But, it says they are Sold Out right now. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/374503-impossible-mission-broken/#findComment-5555729 Share on other sites
Defender_2600
KevinMos3 has made some amazing Graphics Hacks of the "Fixed" version of 7800 Impossible Mission: combo pack here. For nostalgic people, a 7800 - C64 Homage version is included: Edited October 27 by Defender_2600 3 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/374503-impossible-mission-broken/#findComment-5555777 Share on other sites

I have Possible Mission and it has run perfectly going back to the first firmware update through to the latest. However, my copy is not from Good Deal Games. Please install the latest debug Firmware (1.1x-r6) and ensure the Dumper is also on the latest (x.03) version, capture the MD5 data, and post the information to the compatibility thread. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/374503-impossible-mission-broken/#findComment-5555856 Share on other sites

I had uploaded it back in September after I updated with the latest dumper and firmware. I took this one today. My 2600+ is completely updated. +sramirez2008
FWIW, my copy of Possible Mission is from Good Deal Games and it works fine with the latest updates. IIRC, it has always worked. I believe I shared a screenshot of it when the threads first started, but I could be mistaken. 3 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/374503-impossible-mission-broken/#findComment-5555929 Share on other sites
+Mitch
I suspect the ones that don't work on the 2600+ are made using a different cartridge board that is not being detected correctly. Mitch Indeed. From @Thran screenshot, the ROM size and type is incorrect. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/374503-impossible-mission-broken/#findComment-5555999 Share on other sites
Thran
@Trebor @sramirez2008 Mine is definitely not the same. It hard locks the 2600+ after the title screen. Sometimes it plays a sound. There probably is a difference in boards as well. @Thran, sorry you’re experiencing this issue. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/374503-impossible-mission-broken/#findComment-5556031 Share on other sites

Sometimes it plays a sound. It's a long shot, and you may have done this already, but is probably worth another go, try thoroughly cleaning the cartridge contacts. Some Isopropyl Alcohol, 91% or greater, with a cotton swap. Clean up and down, instead of side to side. If the MD5 changes, and it still does not work, you may be heading in the right direction though, and try cleaning (even) more. 2 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/374503-impossible-mission-broken/#findComment-5556053 Share on other sites

I just scrubbed it again with my trusty John Riggs' one up card a healthy dose of BW-100 (contact cleaner) followed up with regular alcohol on a cotton swab. No difference. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/374503-impossible-mission-broken/#findComment-5556109 Share on other sites
Trebor
If curious, @sramirez2008 the "Possible Version" you have is the one labeled "Impossible Mission (Blue Graphics Hack) (20160905) (E1B7ACA7)" in the Trebor PROPack. I noticed your cartridge in-game graphics showcased the C64 looking protagonist, and ran an MD5 checker against the various hack (non-header) binary files, until I came across the one in your screenshot. I'm going to have to (re)install the debugger version to find out which "NTSC Fix" version I have. Mine definitely contains the original game graphics, and for the original graphics, there are at least three possible 'fixed' ROMs out there. 2 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/374503-impossible-mission-broken/#findComment-5556123 Share on other sites
Trebor
Here's the MD5 from my copy of Possible Mission: That corresponds to "Possible Mission (Propane13) (PAL to NTSC Hack) (20050130) (C4B61D17)" from the Trebor's PROPack. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/374503-impossible-mission-broken/#findComment-5556134 Share on other sites
Trebor
For Posterity, here is the "complete" list of Impossible Mission Fixed/Possible Mission NTSC ROMs and their respective MD5 checksum: Possible Mission (Propane13) (PAL to NTSC Hack) (20050130) (C4B61D17) 1745feadabb24e7cefc375904c73fa4c Impossible Mission (Blue Graphics Hack) (20160905) (E1B7ACA7) bf070f04c8fc7ec721b9506b63b48470 Impossible Mission (C64 Graphics Hack) (20160905) (6DB2C25E) 7d852889f398c3389acb6441e5b7ce3b Impossible Mission (Fix 1) (Hack) (NTSC) (7A545A56) 5cfd6fa7e2d691c3a4a879219d2d53b1 Impossible Mission (Fix 2) (Hack) (R_Cade) (NTSC) (2456E0C3) a39e00fd187db968f7b747f4e072c4e6 Impossible Mission (Green Graphics Hack) (20160905) (3A7C61FB) 4a811d87d1730a334a21e7bda9fe535a Impossible Mission (New Graphics - C64 Hack) (20190529) (2C88A6C4) 487a0f021d61e58f3d605f27f453693b Impossible Mission (Red Graphics Hack) (20160905) (804DAFB4) 05c21a88fd736d59d28b1d95e79840b6 Of course, we know at least 2 of the 8 is definitely on physical cartridges. 1 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/374503-impossible-mission-broken/#findComment-5556142 Share on other sites
Riko
My initial question seemed to turn into an adventure! It is probably still not reading the cart correctly/dumping it properly. Can you please run the debug version and post the details? Last time you posted that information... ...both the cart size and type was incorrectly being determined from it, per what is expected for the game. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/374503-impossible-mission-broken/#findComment-5575876 Share on other sites
