Want a bigger screen for your LYNX?

Zanza's post about wanting a Lynx sunvisor reminded me of this, but I thought I'd make a seperate post so people would notice better...

A couple of years ago I came across this screen magnifyer for the Sega Game Gear called the "super wide gear." This baby fits perfectly on a Lynx I as well!!! It should work on a LYNX II too, I don't see why it wouldn't. But it effectively DOUBLES the screen size of the LYNX and works well as a sunvisor too! So if you happen to come across one of these babies (it's made by SEGA, I don't know if any after market version-if there are any- will fit or not) pick it up, it makes a world of difference when playing the Lynx and I don't ever use my Lynx without it now.

does anyone remember wizztronics? Wasn't that the company that you could send your lynx into so that you could plug it into a TV? How's that for a bigger screen? I wanted to have the modification done on one of mine, but I thought it was too expensive. (I think it was something like $100)

More like $200 actually, and one of the reasons I was so happy to find this little puppy, X2 screen size makes a BIG difference without spending much...I haven't heard anymore about wizztronics though...I picked up the Super wide Gear magnifyer for like 2 bucks, about a hundred times less...

Interesting news Gunstar, thanks, but you say that it was fitting perfectly your Lynx I but Lynx II is not the same size...don't you have a pict of your customized Lynx I to see how it looks when it's Super Gear wided ?

I said I don't know if it would fit the LYNX II, but I don't see why not as it's some what adjustable and the LYNX II I think is about just as thick, after all, we already know it fits the LYNX I and Game Gear...as far as pictures, I've never really loaded any onto the site before and I'm not sure how...I have no website to link too. I could take a digital picture and load it in my computer, but that's as much as I know.

I doubt it as the GBA is so much smaller than the bigger GameGear and Lynxes...have no idea why one was never made for the Lynx, probably just didn't get popular enough, but Atari did make the visor, so who knows? the Super wide gear has two adustable harnesses that wrap around the top and bottom of the unit, the top harness is wire-frame, so cards for the LynxII should still be able to be inserted without a problem, but if not, would just have to put the magnifyer on after inserting agame, it takes all of two seconds to do, and it's a very nice fit and centers well over the screen. If I could figure out how to post digital pics here, I'd show everyone, it's fantastic!

I've been trying to even find a GameGear extra wide with no luck here in New England! I looked at the mag lens for the GBA, but it does not fit and I didn't see anything elts that would fit the Lynx.

As far as posting an Image... It's easy! The Coke Can was a test. Just click on "IMAGE" when you post. A window will come up. Just type in your files directory. for example the coke can is on my C drive so I typed in " C:canclosed.jpg "... That's all there is to it! I hope you can post an image of your Lynx with the Extra wide on it now for us!

Also, anyone know where to find the extra wide? The Lynx systems are easier to find!!!!!

In order to include an image that everyone can see, it first has to be uploaded to a computer running a web server accessible from the net. The reason your image isn't showing up is that it is residing on your local hard drive. This will allow you to see it just fine, but unless someone else happens to have a file by the name of C:canclosed.jpg on their hard drive, it'll show up as a broken image.

Once you do find someplace you can upload it, then you would include the complete URL of the image, enclosed between the image tags. If you don't have access to someplace you can put images online, then send it to me and I'll put it up on our server.

I'll send Al a screenshot of it in a bit, my AC/DC adapter plug is broken and I use rechargable batteries in my Lynx, which went dead just as I was trying to take a picture (played it for several hours last weekend), so now I have to wait for the batteries or else there isn't much point since you couldn't see the double sized screen.

I'm really not sure how common the "Super Wide Gear" magnifiers are, I bought mine a couple years ago at a game dealer and there were two there at the time for a couple bucks each (used-no box). But it was a great investment.

I realize that there are magnifiers for the Sega Game Gear that are made by manufacturers other than Sega. For example, there is one made by a company called Haki that makes one for the Game Gear. Would these also fit on the Lynx? Can any Magnifier made for the Gear work for the Lynx or LynxII?

Quite possibly, it really depends how it's attached. This is the only one I know of and when I saw it in the store I was jus like..."Hey! I bet this will fit my lynx!" and since it was dirt cheap, I decided to buy it and hope for the best...it worked.

I'll get on it today! I have to actually take the picture first, but I'll try it, Oh, by the way, all I see on your post is an "x"-no coke can.

Does it have both the plastic and the metal-wire "clamps" on it? It must be missing something if your having trouble, its pretty self-explanatory, you slip the screen on the linx with the plastic "clamp" or "bracket" on the bottom part (under the screen side) and the metal bracket over the top (above the screen. Don't be afraid to let them flex a bit, it will fit fine. (remember though that I have only actually done it with Lynx I, but it fits fine and must fit a game gear, I don't recall the LYNX II being any thicker, so it should fit it as well).

Also, I sent ALEX at least one picture attache to an e-mail and am planning to send other angles, but I have an obsolete 28k connection (my ISP), so it takes forever and I often get cut off the net before the pics have uploaded, so I will continue to try and get others to him. Did you recieve anything Alex?

Hmmm... My magnifier looks slightly different. It says Sega Wide Gear on it, but it looks like it would stand a bit farther away from the lynx screen. I wonder if got a different model or something? I'll make it work...

I sent Al a couple more shots of the 'Super Wide Gear,' a side view with it mounted on the Lynx, which will also give you an idea of how tall it is so that it can double as a sunvisor somewhat. The second is another side view, with the "clamps" pulled out for all to see; these fold in for more compact storage; I have no trouble putting this attachment in my Lynx case with the Lynx, AC adapter, mini headpone case, comlynx, and room for extra batteries not to mention the 20+ games. It is of course the larger soft-side case.

I got a Sega Super Wide Gear Magnifier from PhillyClassic for $5 and I found out that the magnifier does not fit the LynxII. The Lynx II is simply too thick and wide to support the screen. Oh, well. If you have a Lynx I and want a magnifier, I would be willing to sell it or trade it. I wouldn't mind a loose Rygar, Zarlor Mercenary, Shadow of the Beast or Warbirds.
