Tan TI99/4A with non-tan guts ***CLAIMED***

Recommended Posts

A Frankenstein TI99/4A of sorts. The body and keyboard (which is an Alps keyboard!) is from the tan model, but the guts are from an original silver/black model.

The system works 100% perfectly but has these issues:

1. The "K" key on the keyboard is "crunchy". It still works fine, but it doesn't feel good. It needs a new switch

2. The bottom housing is missing the screws. You'll need to add some.

Nothing else, just the computer. Free for the taking for the cost of shipping which I will calculate based on your address via UPS (coming from NC).

If you name is "NinjaWarrior" you are disqualified from claiming.

Thanks!

Dude still mad at the whole 8-Port AV Switcher I wanted

At that time I was foceus on Food Shopping, Now I have EBT, I can buy stuff

Not sure what to say to this...

If food is such a problem why in the world would you be posting wanted ads and living in the free stuff forums (considering it's not really free as you have to PAY for the shipping in most cases).

And now that you have EBT you can "buy stuff"? My tax dollars hard at work helping people...

Mind blown....

I doubt he even remembers that.  To be fair, you are enough of a pain in the ass that I do not want you in my free threads, either.  All you do is complain and gripe when things do not go your way.  Your attitude and behavior has made people feel uncomfortable in my threads from back in 2020, and your toxicity has made one person publicly post that he may no longer participate in the for-free forum.  You have PMed me in the past wanting me to give you first dibs on hard drives when I have them available, which is not how this works.

I have no idea if you have any quality contributions anywhere else on AtariAge, but your behavior around here makes you a scourge and you will never hold in your hands anything which I have to give away.  Irrespective of your economic disposition, dubious or otherwise, period.

moving along from that smoldering fire

I had a ti994a one of the silver ones back in 2 ought 23, thought I would love it as it checked so many boxes for me ... sold it 3 weeks later at a loss 🤷‍♂️

I dunno I had it in my mind it would be something that could rival later computers and consoles using more or less the same "pretty parts" (IE sound and video) but for me I don't think the OG software for it really had a chance to mature. I had fun with it ... it just didnt last that long to dedicate space for it

I have a silver one (connected) and another tan one (in box).

I never grew up with this computer. I barely even remember it growing up. In the late 90's I was in a bar talking about the good old Vic-20 and this one guy chimed in asking me if I remembered Munch Man on the TI99/4A and spent the next hour gushing over how much he had loved that computer. That was really my first introduction, so I sought one out to see what it was all about.

I liked it immediately because it reminded me of the Colecovision. No mystery as the same graphic chip is being used.

When I got the FinalGrom I was able to really check the library and I liked what I saw. There are just a lot of great games...lots of great ports. It's no wonder why there is such a following for it in the forums...more than any other vintage computer actually so it seems.

This computer is STILL alien to me however. I like it but I still can't roll up my sleeves and feel at home with it like I do with the C64 (or Vic). But I'm tryin' :)

I literally grew up with a TI99 4/a. My father went all in when it came out. We had the PEB, 2x 5.25" disk drives, RAM expansion, printer, modem, tape drive, controllers, voice module, cartridge expander and something I have never seen since in person - the Texas Instruments color monitor! My first BASIC programs were written on that beast. :)

It is certainly a quality machine. I love the Alps keyboard (which all of mine have) and it's just such a unique computer. I was utterly impressed with the Desire demo (I am a demo guy, came from the demo scene) and I am always eager to see more of what this machine can do. Really like it myself.

Im a demo guy myself, looking from outside in, never participated. Grew up with the colecovision as a console, dad had an apple II for his biz, I found the 99/4A quite amusing when I finally got one ... but limited space in a small house I got to be picky about what I really want, rather than going pokemon

its spot has been filled with a OG MSX "Arabic" computer, which was more of the experience I was looking for after some tinkering

postage is what it is ... and it often sux

with the TI99/4a it looks like its a tiny computer but its a got quite an outline, and shipping it requires a decent sized box if you want it to get to you in decent shape

eightbit is not skimpy or excessive with his packaging during my recent transactions

That's right. If you want it smashed to bits I can put it in a large bubble envelope.

Although this is marked as "claimed", it is not. I gave up as nobody wants to pay the shipping, which was quoted as $28 for the first person, and a whopping $44 (IIRC) for the second person. Even still, I don't think you can get one of these functional on ePAY for that *including* shipping.

Oh well, I tried.

I grabbed it shipping was reasonable considering these things are almost as wide as a PC clone, and fragile as an egg ... the tan cases are not metal clad ballistic plastic

ill test it, maybe make / get some cables to sell with it, ill sell it for 50-60 bucks + postage here if im nice, otherwise slap it on ebay for 99.99 + postage or best offer, it will be gone within a couple days
