GE Computer Program Data Recorder 3-5160A - Power Supply Question

Recommended Posts

I have a GE 3-5160A but it lost the battery lid. I don't have the power supply of it. I can see it has a barrel plug for 6V but I have no info about amp and the size and polarity of the barrel. I tried googling it but can;t find that info.

Any chance that any one here have this model and provide the power supply info?

Thank you!

generally, 500mamps should be enough, as it runs on only 4 AA batteries.

As for the pin being positive or ground, an easy way to test is using an digital multimeter, place one probe on the pin and the other on one of battery contacts on the underside, it should be directly connected.

if it reads ZERO ohms from pin to Black (then its ground) or vice-versa ZERO from pin to Red (then its positive).

Ok.  If it is the same internal design as here:

Then it should be center-negative.  EDIT: The schematic does not use the (current?) standard symbol for the barrel connector, so I would test this conclusion as @Gary from OPA described above.

I found an eBay auction for the manual to a similar unit (5360) in which the (blurry) manual shows what looks like the 5-1075 power supply.  Which leads me to another auction of the 5-1075A which shows 6V 200mA or 7.5V 100mA, but it shows no polarity.  Size, I could not tell you at this point.

Yep, have continuity with the positive battery pin, so that means is center positive right?

Yes. If the center pin connects to the positive battery terminal with very low resistance then center pin needs to be positive on your power supply.

I have a Sony machine that I found at a closed down radio station that I have to try on my old console.

Well ...using this method... you really want to try all 4, combinations ...the lowest being the truest.:pirate:

EDIT: Also, the sleeve wiper contact is usually also an A/B switch, that cuts the battery out. 🔋

It's pretty amazing that a service manual was available!
