Matt300ZXT
Since I decided to buy a VCS on Atari's big sale a couple days ago, when it finally gets here, it seems I'll be able to install Batocera (just heard of it a day or so ago) and play a bunch of old games. I'm curious, though, what console does it emulate up to? I think I saw PS2 from what I hear, and that's about as "new" a console as I really care about. If it'll do NES, SNES, N64, GameCube (no biggie if it won't do GC) Master System, Genesis, Sega CD, Saturn, Dreamcast, 2600, 5200, 7800, Jaguar/Jaguar CD, TurboGrafx16/PC Engine, Neo Geo, PS1, and PS2, I think that's all I'd really care about. I've seen where it does Mame for arcade games, so that's great. I feel if it does all/most of those I mentioned, I may have wasted a bunch of money over the past couple of years with getting Everdrives/Game Drives, optical drive emulators, and doing mods on all these old consoles of mine lol But, I guess there is something cool though about using original hardware/controllers with a multicart instead of emulating everything and using the Atari modern controller. davpa
I installed BatoceraOS on a flash drive so I could use the VCS in either Batocera mode or AtariOS mode. At the time, either v37 or 38, a Stock VCS was running up to GameCube, N64, Dreamcast, and PS1 without any noticeable issues. The PS2 was a bit shaky at the time, but now that Batocera is at v40, I expect PS2 to run a lot smoother with the improvements they've done on the various emulation. I haven't used my one VCS as an emulation machine is a while, so I'll have to try it with v40 of Batocera. 2 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/376590-what-systems-does-batocera-emulate-up-to/#findComment-5574988 Share on other sites
Matt300ZXT
Oh nice! So it basically covers anything I'd want to emulate, especially if that new update smooths out PS2. I may have to figure out the dualboot thing so I can still use the factory OS for the Vault and some other stuff, but go into Batocera to play some emulated games. I don't mind popping a 1tb ssd into it and using that for Batocera and storing a lot of the roms, but if I choose to use the VCS instead of my modded consoles, I think I'm going to have to get some high capacity usb sticks to hold some of the larger, more modern GameCube and PS2 games. SuperZapperRecharge
Multiboot Atari VCS800. AtariOS on MMC, Batocera, Ubuntu, Windows. Works wonderfully! zzip
Based on the required specs of the PS2 emulator, it's iffy whether that will run well on the VCS, it probably depends on the PS2 game you try to run. I emulate up to the Wii on mine, and most Wii games run decently.
