adams_ale
I am only 25 but I remember going to the roller skating rink with my parents and playing/watching the arcade games. My earliest memories of arcades were dig dug, pac man, asteroids, donkey kong, centipede, and maybe around 84 I remember this karate game that I played the most, but can't remember it's name. Maybe it was just called karate? The graphics seemed great at the time but it only consisted of two identical but different colored karate fighters(black and white karate clothes I believe) fighting on top of a wood log with a waterfall in the background. There was a person in the middle who judged the fight and declared fight at the beginning and declared the winner. The background always stayed the same I believe with the log and waterfall. I loved the game and would love to play it again but can't remember the name. I was hoping it may have come out on the 2600, 5200 or rom and I could play it again. Does anyone remember this game? Christophero Sly
Sounds like 'Karate Champ'.
Ralph3
It is Karate Champ. http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter...=K&game_id=8280 It was released on on the original Nintendo. Not the same experience though.
adams_ale
Thanks! Well my memory was kind of fuzzy on the details but that is the game! I've been wondering what the name was for well...years! I have a nintendo so I might check it out if it's close to the arcade. Maybe I'll just keep it in my memory without ruining it with a bad port. Anyway, thanks again! Did anyone else enjoy this game! It seems now that this was the first Street Fighter type game; unless I stand corrected. Sega Ages
Did anyone else enjoy this game! Absolutely. It remains one of my favorites to this day. I loved the arcade variant International Karate Champ, with two pairs of sticks for 2-player competition play. What an awesome game. The game cut across all ages of karate fans too, since my father has been a fan of it as long as I have. It also features in the movie Bloodsport! In my opinion the much hyped IK+ on Amiga et al was never as good as the original Karate Champs since they removed the great dual stick control scheme out of necessity, and adding a third player ruined the tactical aspect of the original for hardcore fans. Although IK+ was fun in its own way.
Flack
There it is in my garage. Sorry, carry on.
Mr_King
Karate Champs was a great game. How anyone could play that, Yie Arr Kung Fu game (spelling?) is completely beyone me.
Sega Ages
Cool Flack, very cool. But can you knock out the bull? It took me a long time to figure it out. (lots of quarters) That machine looks lonely though. It's a dual-stick model too, meant for competition play. You should bring it over to your local karate dojo on weekends or something and set it for Freeplay. If they've seen Bloodsport they should be right into it... Ralph3
. It's a dual-stick model too, meant for competition play. All Karate Champs were dual stick models, although the lesser known 1 player version only had one set of dual sticks instead of two sets of dual sticks for the more common 2 player version. Yes I'm well aware of these facts. I meant the one in the photo is the dual-dual-stick model.

Good By(t)e Gus Huh? just rename the game and call it a fan-based remake. As far as I can tell remakes are not illegal so I'd say go ahead and rename it! (Unless there are other restrictions you are not telling us about? )
Rekrul
In my opinion the much hyped IK+ on Amiga et al was never as good as the original Karate Champs since they removed the great dual stick control scheme out of necessity, and adding a third player ruined the tactical aspect of the original for hardcore fans. Although IK+ was fun in its own way. While I thought IK+ (AKA Chop 'N' Drop) was ok, I always liked International Karate better. Both were available for the C64, while only IK+ was available for the Amiga. International Karate had the same type of graphics as IK+, in fact the fighters were exactly the same, but there were only two fighters, and a bunch of different backgrounds that you fought in front of. After a couple matches, there would be a bonus round where you break blocks with your head. An official port of Karate Champ was also released for the C64 but I didn't care for it that much. Then there's Way of the Exploding Fist, which had good graphics, but I always though it moved too slowly. Lots of people seemed to think it was great though. 7800Lover
Karate Champ is a good game. I reviewed that too on Classic Gaming. The bonus round was cool. Knocking out a bull...can't get that in today's games.
