neotokeo2001
The music pulsates, the laser lights dance, the fog machine turns the scene dreamy and a rotating disco ball radiates glittering images through the late-night crowd. Most step toward the foul line bodies twitching to the sound of the funky beat blaring from the sound system. It is Cosmic Bowling. cosmicbin.zip.zip

Video
Dude, your an ALIEN, what could be cooler than that? Nice hack BTW.
Vic George 2K3
Too bad there is no color cycling going on throughout the whole game...that would truly give it a "cosmic" feel.
Brad2600
I once wanted to create a hack like that. It would be nice if you could pull it off though. It would make a good conversation piece. In fact, you could get Paul Slocum to compose some bowling alley music for it...LOL.
neotokeo2001
Too bad there is no color cycling going on throughout the whole game...that would truly give it a "cosmic" feel. The Ball, Pins and lane are all assigned the same color. I wanted to have a flashing color but all I use is Hack-o-Matic. I don't have a color chart to go by so it's trial and error for the color. If someone can add the flashing Ball, Pins and lane it would be greatly appreciated.
ATARI TROLL
I like the graphics and colors. We have a cosmic bowling night where I live and the colors themselves in this hack have a good glow feeling to the game. I also like how his head and eye movement flow together right at the release of the ball! This hack ROCKS!
Nukey Shay
If someone can add the flashing Ball, Pins and lane it would be greatly appreciated. The easiest way to do this would be to disassemble the game program (take note of the byte you changed to change the color). Look through the disassembly and locate the label that Dasm assigns to that byte (usually, it's the letter L followed by the address). Search through the rom and find where that label is loaded into one of the registers. Then, just change the instruction to load from a Ram location instead. Also, since the ball is a player object you should be able to change this color seperately from the "gutters".
ATARI TROLL
Any luck with the glowing pins & lane??
keyngs
I LOVE IT!!!!! Very cool indeed. I would surely but one if it ever went on sale. GREAT JOB!
Brad2600
Any updates, neotokeo? I would love to see this game released. It is something that I was hoping for. You could also get some groovy music instead of the boring static sound you get from the ball hitting the pins.

You could also get some groovy music instead of the boring static sound you get from the ball hitting the pins. I've had this on hold for a while. I will be making 10 carts of the hack in January, but they are all reserved. I may make additional copies, not sure yet. Packrat VG have been very good about putting the games together so it depends on how many they can make. I have'nt made any changes to the hack yet. If anyone can add the glowing lanes and pins (flashing) or even add music, If it makes it in the final cartridge then I will make sure you get a copy of the game when it's made. Also look for Death Race in Feb. I just recieved a few copys today and the cart looks great! I'll post info here.
Brad2600
If you can, let me know if more copies will be made of Cosmic Bowling. I really like Bowling by itself and it's one of the games I had as a kid. Cosmic Bowling would only enchance it for me.
bjk7382
I played this hack thru the supercharger and it plays good on the actual hardware. Flashing pins/ball would make it better though. I always like the regular bowling too.
neotokeo2001
I have'nt had a chance to play it on a real Atari yet. I'm looking forward to it. I started out just doing a background color change and nothing looked good. I then thought of laser bowling and tried the black background. I tried to use colors that look like a black light effect. I then started changing the player sprite and it just looked weird. I decided to make the player an Alien so the facial color does'nt matter and he is suppose to look weird. As for making the pins, ball, and lanes flash or glow. All three use the same color code and I can't figure out how to make them flash. It may take some additional coding to make that happen. It would look cool but it would give me a headache looking at it for 10 frames of bowling. IF ANYONE CAN MAKE THE FLASHING EFFECT I WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT. StanJr
It would look cool but it would give me a headache looking at it for 10 frames of bowling. I hadn't thought of it that way....
Video
Actually, if the screen colors cycled slowly, you know, how most Atari games do in "Screen saver" mode? Then it would be cool. And the fast cycling on spares and strikes would give it more of a disco feel. That, or just have the lane, ball and pins cycle constantly, and everything else stays it's useual self. But if you're going to add color cycling, I'd say that a soundtrack would be a must, something to get the feel of a disco type thing going. Of course, that'd probably take more space and all, but would be awesome to see. I'd personally like to see Test Carts tune put to good use in a game. It's an awesome tune, and I'd think the 'average gamer' would really love it. Of course, you'd have to get permission, but that'd be cool if it happened.
