robsterman
Venice, Italy: September, 1935 ------------------------------ You are Pitfall Harry, archaelogist extraordinaire!!! Time and time again, you have traversed the most-remote locales that this Earth has bestowed upon you, and have now accumulated quite a source of treasure. For you, adventure has become synonymous with success. And success, for you, has now become synonymous with boredom. You are in peak physical condition, you mental faculties are intact, and through your experiences, you have nurtured a sage-like wisdom. In short, you need a challenge. Perhaps, what you truly need is a change of scenery. And so, after putting in for a leave of absence, you book passage to Venice. Once there, you spread the word in the back alleys, pubs, and black markets of this town, for weeks, to no avail. Until that one night, standing atop the Bridge of Sighs, overlooking the beauty of the canals, you notice that all is quiet... Too quiet. Suddenly, your thoughts are jostled by a man clad in gondola garb. "Signor. This is for you." The man hands you a sealed letter, and before you can ask or do anything, he collapses in your arms. Noticing a dart protruding from his neck, you run as far as your legs will carry you, past the Doge's Palace, through St. Mark's square, until you stop at a darkened alleyway. Unclasping the seal of the letter, you begin to read... PITFALL HARRY ... STOP ... GREAT TRESURES AWAIT YOU ... STOP ... NONE HAVE SURVIVED ... STOP ... BOOK TRANSPORT TO LIMA, PERU ... STOP ... FEAR THAT EVEN YOU MAY NOT OVERCOME CHALLENGE OF THE 255 ROOMS ... STOP One portion of this telegram intrigues you ... NONE have survived. You reflect upon that time-tested adage "Be careful what you wish for. You might just get it." Without further delay, you head to Rome, and from there, purchase a ticket on the ship called Davidus Cranius. And, for the next three weeks, you map your strategy to do what no man has ever done before... Overcome the challenge of the 255 Rooms. robsterman
Lima, Peru: October, 1935 -------------------------------- You step off the Davidus Cranius, anxious to regain your land legs. There is no greater contrast to civilized Venice, Italy than the savage rainforests that surround you. Yes, this will be quite an adventure. However, you have no time for introspection. Within moments of your arrival, six of the town's "welcoming committee" stand before you. "So, senor, you are the great Pitfall Harry," the boldest of the click remarks. "I'm Pitfall Harry," you reply, letting the power of your name speak for you. "You may be great. You may not be great. We shall soon see," he continues, and hands you another sealed letter. Then, before he departs, he adds, "IF you are the great Pitfall Harry, this should be a, how you say, piece of pie. And if you're not ..." His finger rubbing against his throat in a slashing motion is rather demonstrative. "PITFALL HARRY ... STOP ... CLUE #1 APPEARS BELOW ... YOU HAVE 48 HOURS TO SOLVE ... NONE HAVE SURVIVED ... WILL YOU ... HA HA ... PURPOSE OF YAR SWAPPED FOR RETURN JEDI MORE BENEVOLENT ... STOP" "See you in 48 hours, senor," the man concludes. "One way or the other." The gang departs from you, knowing that within 48 hours, you will be providing them with either the answer to this puzzle or the source for the latest craze in Lima, Peru ... Human Pinata. robsterman
Has someone answered the first puzzle correctly. Maybe. The Robsterman is not saying. However, know that all the information you need (maybe, a bit too much) is there for the taking. Check back today (Monday, December for puzzle #2. Also, someone has e-mailed the Robsterman. Yes, in response to that e-mail, there will be a Word Search. Yes, it will be tough. No, it will not have that Rubic's Cube format. In addition, another hint. For puzzle #2 revolves around the Atari 2600 voted by some to be the WORST ATARI GAME OF ALL TIME. If you kinow this game, you already have a jump on the rest. robsterman
You are awakened from your roach-infested motel via a bucket of ice-cold water. And, there, standing before you, is the man in black. "So, Senor, have you heard of a Spanish necktie?" You stare at him in puzzlement. "Not to worry, amigo, for if you do not know the answer to my puzzle, you goose is, how you say, fried." "You woke me up for this," you retort, groggily. "If you get my puzzle wrong, have no fear, for you will sleep again." He pauses, and then adds, "Permanently." His black eyes bore into you. "The answer, senor." You respond, casually, "******* ** *** ****" NOTE: The answer is masked so as not to spoil the fun for those who have not yet completed puzzle #1. In addition, the number of asterisks, as well as the spaces signify NOTHING. He looks at you with a newfound respect. "You ARE Pitfall Harry. None but Pitfall Harry could have answered my puzzle so quickly or so easily." "Thank you," you respond sarcastically. "Then again," he adds, stroking his black mustache. "You may be have, how you say, the luck of the Italians. But none save for Pitfall Harry can answer TWO of my puzzles correctly. And this puzzle is so tough, I will provide you with 96 hours." He throws another sealed envelope toward you. "And now, vamanos," the man in black responds to his evil conclade. "But, senor, fail to answer this puzzle, and you will, indeed, understand what a Spanish necktie is all about." This troupe of death soon departs your hotel room, to be followed by the man in black, who adds, "And do not try to leave this country, amigo. All ports and the ships that enter them are owned by me. In short, the only way you are leaving Lima alive is to answer my puzzles correctly." Shortly after the Hispanic grim reaper leaves, you open this sealed envelope. Its contents read... "PITFALL HARRY ... STOP ... CLUE #2 APPEARS BELOW ... STOP ... YOU HAVE 96 HOURS TO SOLVE ... NONE HAVE SURVIVED ... THE UNDERTAKER COVETS YOUR MEASUREMENTS ... HA HA ... FINAL RESTING PLACE OF ALIEN BOXES REMOVE ALL VOWELS SAVE FOR OCULAR ONES STOP" What is the answer to this puzzle? robsterman
To keep you posted, Pitfall Harry has 96 hours to solve Puzzle #2. Puzzle #3 will involve a word puzzle. A few hints, to whet your appetite: Hint #1 - There are 26 games to search for within the puzzle. Hint #2 - There is a reason why the number "26" is used. Hint #3 - The reason is NOT because the console is the Atari 2600. Hint #4 - The leftover letters of the puzzle spell a message. The answer to the puzzle will be to state this message. However, you cannot do this until you find all 26 games within the puzzle. Enjoy. And see you Friday. robsterman
The Robsterman has received an e-mail some someone, asking him to make his Pitfall Harry contest a bit easier. In short, the puzzles are too tough. So, should the Robsterman tone down the challenge-level of the puzzles? Or, should he keep them tough? What's your opinion?
