PickAxePete
I just want to say 'hi' to all you classic gamers and I look forward to reading up on some of your posts about some of the great systems I grew up with. I just recently purchased an Odyssey2 off ebay and have combined the games with the games I had growing up (33 different games, with 17 doubles & some triples). I still have my original system (though I didn't plug it in when I got my new one) and if I run into problems, I'm glad to have the extra parts. My original was detachable joysticks. This new one is wired. I still don't know why Magnavox would do that, but then they were all about their TVs then, weren't they? If I run into issues and have questions, I'll certainly seek some advice, since I'm a bit "out of sorts" when it comes to video game electronics (funny, cuz I probably was better at repairing things when I was ten than I am now) Ciao
sku_u
Welcome to Atariage, Pickaxe Pete. It's great to see a fellow O2 fan on the boards.
oesii
Cool, welcome aboard. There's a few O2 guys around here, be sure to check out www.digitpress.com and its forums too, a couple of more O2 nuts over there. I'm looking forward to the new homebrew, Kill the Attacking Aliens, coming out for the O2. You can download a neat demo here: http://soeren.informationstheater.de/g7000/ktaa.html
PickAxePete
I read up on KTAA and I'm looking forward to it. I hope it's made into a cart compatible for US systems and availabe thru mailorder. I'd love to download it, but I have too many problems with my old iMac. I'm planning on getting a new one this year, but until then, I may not be able to do everything I want to do with this computer.
oesii
Yeah, you probably need a newer Mac to run the good O2EM emulator available at www.bannister.org But I've had fun with it so good luck in the future
Phosphor Dot Fossils
a couple of more O2 nuts over there. Hey! I resemble that remark! Are you by chance the same Pick Axe Pete who was at OKGE '03 in Tulsa? If so, howdy stranger. And if not...howdy stranger.
SteveW
I think you need a proper avatar picture.
PickAxePete
I didn't think about an avatar.
+5-11under
I've recently been thinking about selling my O2 collection, because I'm concentrating on Atari products and a few other oddball systems (Vectrex, Virtual Boy). Now I'm thinking I'll keep it, because it is pretty cool, and somewhat rare and old (compared to Intellivision and Coleco, anyway). Thanks everyone for keeping me on the straight and narrow. Got to get me that multi-cart. 5-11under
PickAxePete
I say keep it. Atari sold so many games and systems that the "atari" universe will be around for a long while. Odyssey is out there and it does have a following, but its games were complete orginal (well, clones) as Atari & INTV & Coleco had games exchanging on all systems. And I have many doubles in O2 games, so if there are any you may be interested in, if you don't have them all, let me know.

Brad2600
Welcome to AtariAge, PickAxePete! There are more O2 collectors on here and DigitalPress too. I currently have a boxed O2 that I bought from someone here at AtariAge and I have 18 games (17 loose, 1 boxed). I have the hardwired unit but someday, I'd like to find one with detachable controllers instead. One more thing. The interesting thing about the O2 is that it's simple and enjoyable. I truly like games like Showdown in 2100AD (correct spelling?) and Pick Axe Pete. It definitely could use some more tweaking because the developer(s) did not do it justice. I would like to get my hands on the Imagic games for the O2. That is, if they were ever released.
Phosphor Dot Fossils
Do you mean this Imagic game, or that one?
Brad2600
How about both? They don't look bad. The O2 is only capable of so much, right?
PickAxePete
Magnavox/Phillips could have done more for the O2 and a follow up system (odyssey 3) if they only cared about video computer systems. O2 was a great system for young kids learning computers with their very basic Educational Series and very cleaver with their Master Strategy Series, but Phillips never really appreciated what they had. Too bad there wasn't another company willing to buy the product name. They were cheap with hardware too. Why make the joysticks attached? Why not sell joystick accessories? Why not jump into the Third Party industry for game production? I can only sigh and think, What if? I can imagine a system being created to compete with the Commodore 64, with superior graphics, tons of new software, compatible with all O2 games, but no. It never happened. At least we can enjoy the few programmers creating games like AMOK! and Kill the Attacking Aliens!. I just hope they remember the at the end of each title. Ze_ro
Well, although I like the O^2, I really don't think it was popular enough to drive Magnavox to release the O^3. It most likely would have gotten lost in the crash like the ADAM did. It certainly would have been interesting though... first ever backwards compatible console. It would have been neat to see them jump ship and start making games for the Colecovision and C-64 though. Sequels to Quest For The Rings!, Pickaxe Pete!, and Monkeyshines! could have been very interesting. I wonder if Magnavox still owns all the copyrights for that stuff. --Zero
stayrunner
Although I collect for the Odyssey2, I just can't get excited about the games. Turtles is the only game I've played that deserves any praise. It seems like the programmers were not interested in making a good game. I'll keep collecting, but I mainly break it out just to show friends how awfull the games are.
desiv
You know, you'd think they were awful from looking at the games... Graphically and gameplay.. simplistic.. no questions... But I turn on my O2, plug in say.. UFO.. and 25 minutes later, I'm thinking.. That was fun... and for me, that's what it comes down to.. is it fun.. Yep desiv
